Dogs Are Always Smelly

I have 2 mastiffs and I can't get rid of the stink. They both have allergies. They are on a vet approved diet, bathed once a week with a vet approved shampoo and still come out with a wet dog smell. It just gets worse as the week goes by. I can't get rid of it. What can I do. Any suggestions.

I spray my doggie once in awhile with
something I got inexpensive from WalMart
I do it between baths he always smells
sweet or at least mostly

Might be a skin infection. I'm working right now with my allergic, smelly dog. Vet recommended a very simple ingredient diet. Found a very pure one that has only rice, lamb, and oil, with lots of vitamins, hopefully for only now, seems dogs are like people and would need a variety once we identify the culprit(s) she might be allergic to.

She's still on allergy meds and antibiotics for a few more days, but is doing great! Acting like a puppy again she's so lively already with almost no itching. The point of this though, is that vet said she's smelly (and kind of greasy feeling) due to infection (!) due to scratching. She's still on antibiotics this week. Will bathe her over the weekend (gently) and see if that bad doggy smell goes away. I always thought that I just wasn't getting her clean enough. I have high hopes that I can steam clean my couch, where she loves to hang out, after bathing her and rid our house of her smell. I'll try the vinegar on the couch. But think you might need to be aware of possibility of infected skin.

How would you use the vinegar? Diluted?

Hello,
I would personally use vinegar. It's non- toxic, it neutralizes smells and is cheap. Also, it will make their fur so soft and help with skin conditions and help keep fleas at bay! Have a great one...mvb

Is the bedding cleaned, too? Are they in an odiferous outdoor area? Food and water bowls disinfected? Does the local water supply have an odor?
Try making homemade dog food and doggie biscuits for a week and see if that helps. Dogs got their carb intake from the soft parts of carcases (in the wild). Try to approximate an original diet. There are several dog cookbooks in stores.

Change your dog's food. The vet approved diets are all corn. Research raw diets or high quality foods. Dogs need meat, not corn. Within two weeks of changing my dog's diet to raw, I have a nice smelling, non-itchy dog. Easy as that. Good luck.
