Nabisco Lemon Cooler Cookies

Does Nabisco still make Lemon Coolers cookies? (The ones covered in powdered sugar that had a light lemon taste.) My mom tried to find them after my dad requested them, but none of our stores have them anymore! Does anyone know a recipe for something similar? Thanks!

Try Lemon Cookies by Niche Foods. They are the closest thing available.

I can't believe it! I thought I was the only Cherry Cooler and Lemon Cooler Fanatic left on this planet! The late sixties and early seventies were great! Hey Brian! Thanks for letting me raid your Mom's pantry in 6th grade!

RE: Nabisco Lemon Cooler Cookies

Oh my goodness! As someone mentioned, kindred spirits here for sure :-) These truly are the best all time cookie! I haven't had them for quite some time. I grew up (and learned to love them!) outside of San Francisco. Then 4 years in Nebraska and now Texas Houston and Austin)...and haven't been able to find them in these places for at least 10 years.

I finally today decided I was going to see if I could find them online and pay the huge price of having them shipped...that is how much I am craving them!

WHY, Sunshine/Keebler or Nabsico? Why haven't you brought them back? This type of response for something like this is pretty telling. Bring back the lemon coolers, please?!

I tried the new Lemon coolers from Niche Foods. I found them at a Von's in El Cajon. They are great just like I remembered.

Look what I found!! Dean and Deluca have cookies that sure do resemble the Lemon Cooler Cookies. I'm going to have to trot down there and pick some up. I'll report back! Keebler's loss.

RE: Nabisco Lemon Cooler Cookies

Oh my goodness! I just got so excited. I was at the store and saw a similar box of "lemon cooler cookies" my husband asked if it was the same brand. It wasn't but, I bought it anyway. I was so disappointed! They don't have the same citrus bite that Nabisco had. So I started looking for recipes. P.S. Yes, they were round not wedge shaped.

RE: Nabisco Lemon Cooler Cookies

I just emailed them with a link to this site so they could see how many people love them. I'm not really a big lemon fan, but those were the best cookies I ever had, and I'm not a good enough cook to try to do it myself. It's horrible when you really crave something and they quit making it.

They did have the little lemon bits in them! I, too, have searched high and low for these treasures to no avail.

You would think that the company would want to bring them back, as they are delicious and low in fat content. I am a nutritionist and it was the best low fat treat when someone wanted to splurge. Now society in general is looking for low fat items, so you would think that now is the perfect time to bring them back, as I am sure sales would soar. Sad they are no longer on the market.

This was our favorite, too. Sunshine used to make them. Keebler bought Sunshine, and could make the cookies if they wanted to, but they don't because of the name recognition. So, if everyone stopped buying Keebler cookies and demanded they make them, they then would.

I join the lemon cooler family! We as a family pick them as the NO 1 fav cookie we ever had. I also have searched high and low for them, as well as tried many different recipes to try and dup. I will try the recipe in this blog and also try the ones from target.
Personally I also like the cherry coolers for the short time they were around. Is there a way to direct nab to this page?

I've searched high and low for the elusive Lemon Coolers in NC, CO and now ME to no avail. A nostalgic cookie for me appears to never be had again. The closest cookie to the Lemon Cooler that I've had are the Archway Farms Lemon Cookie Straws, sold at Target stores.

To those who don't remember the lemon bits in the lemon coolers, I assure you they were there. This was my favorite cookie for years and I'm so glad to get a decent recipe for a knock off. As for the lemon bits, you had to look hard to see them, as they were very pale yellow. I would always look for them because the bits were tart and I loved eating them! I sure miss these cookies.

"Archway now makes a really close resemblance, called Iced Lemonade. They have a that really great flavor, only in a much more "crispy" cookie, rather than the familiar vanilla wafer style. "

Archway used to make even better lemon cookies, but they are gone as well. Lemon Coolers were the best ever. Archway's previous lemon cookies were second. Girl Scouts previous lemon cookies #3.

Best recipe I have found yet:

Sunshine Lemon Coolers Ingredients
1/2 cup powdered sugar 1 1/2 cups cake flour
1/3 cup sugar 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/3 cup shortening 1 tablespoon water
1 egg 1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 teaspoon Unsweetened lemonade mix
1/8 teaspoon salt
Instructions for Sunshine Lemon Coolers
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
2. Cream together sugars, shortening, egg, vanilla, and salt in
a large bowl.
3. Add the flour and baking powder. Add 1 tablespoon of water and
continue mixing until dough forms a ball.
4. Roll dough into 3/4-inch balls and flatten slightly onto a
lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until
cookies are light brown.
5. As cookies bake, combine 1 cup powdered sugar with the lemonade
drink mix in a large plastic bag and shake thoroughly to mix.
6. When the cookies are removed from the oven and while they are
hot, add 4 or 5 at a time to the bag and shake it until the cookies
are well coated. Repeat with the remaining cookies.

I thought I was alone in my quest for Sunshine Lemon Coolers, Publix in Sarasota,FL tried to order them for me several years back, but no...I live in NH & a lot of people have never even tried them! What's up with that. They are by far the best & cooliest. But they didn't have any lemon chips in them that I remember. There's also a lemon sherbet candy that is very nice too, but alas that too has disappeared. I will try Target Lemon Straws.

RE: Nabisco Lemon Cooler Cookies

I spoke to a rep from Sunshine (Keebler) and indeed they no longer make the Lemon Coolers. On the spot I made my first of many requests to the company to bring the Coolers back. The rep said "enough requests and they would consider it"! WRITE, CALL, E-MAIL Sunshine (now Keebler)!

RE: Nabisco Lemon Cooler Cookies

Wow! I feel I've found my kindred. I have looked in every grcoery store I've entered all across the country, everywhere I've traveled trying to find those wonderful lemon coolers. A friend of mone served some keylime cookies with powdered sugar she said she found at Publix here in Atlanta, but I haven't been able to find those either. If anyone out there knows how to contact the elves of Keebler--please tell them about those of us sadly searching to no avail.

Recipe# 474743 I too have searched the shelves for years for the Sunshine Lemon Coolers. I used to keep them in the freezer and eat them cold. This recipe is IT! Thank you so much for posting. I don't recall any bits of anything in the cookies as someone mentioned above, this recipe tastes exactly like the ones I remember:)

RE: Nabisco Lemon Cooler Cookies

Anyone remember cherry coolers, also made by Sunshine? They weren't around as long as the lemon. Perhaps Keebler will reconsider if they get enough requests. In the meantime, I'm off to Target to try the lemon straws.

Post By Susan (Guest Post)

If you have a Target in your area they have lemon cookie straws that are as close as I've ever had. They are very good but the original lemon cooler should be brought back.

RE: Nabisco Lemon Cooler Cookies

I've tried everything to equate these with no success. The little lemon chips that gave bursts of flavor were key to their deliciousness. I think my volume of purchases alone would have been enough to make these a big seller for the Sunshine Company! I believe Keebler did purchase Sunshine so we should all flood them with requests to bring back these tart treasures.

I still buy Ruby Red Squirt often and in fact just had one last week. Yum. As for the Lemon Coolers. Wahhhhhh! I WANT THEM BACK AND I WANT THEM BACK NOW! How totally uncool that things like this disappear from our lives and it takes us a while to figure it out. Sigh. How can we get them back? I used to LOVE getting the little chunk of lemon out of the cookie. Remember? Remember the little chunk? Anyhow, BRING BACK LEMON COOLERS!

RE: Nabisco Lemon Cooler Cookies

I'm in the business of building supermarkets. I was in a store near Chicago yesterday and the owner and I ended up in his cookie aisle. I asked him, "what ever happened to Lemon Coolers?" He couldn't believe he didn't sell them. We looked at his cookie selection for about 5 minutes before he declared, "I'm gonna find those darn cookies!" So maybe we've got hope.

The Sunshine Co. used to make the ones that we used to purchase. My husband liked them, because they were the only ones on the market that were as tart as he likes. His Momma used to make him tart lemon meringue pies. Needless, to say, mine are "never like Momma's". I've not seen those cookies in many years.
