Mother's Day Gift Ideas

Does anyone have good gift ideas (under $100) to give a mother who lives in a different state. She doesn't drive anymore, so dinner certificates are out because most of her friends don't drive either. She's not a hat person, so no hats for Mother's Day. She mentioned fruit being too expensive to buy. I know there are those companies where you can buy fruit, but I don't want to buy an entire case. Any suggestions besides flowers or cash?

Harry & David has different sized fruit gifts, as well as different fruit of the month programs. I have received items from them-always fresh and always quality. You can check them out online.

If you want something free and sentimental, write her a letter with a list of fond memories you have of her for every year she's been your mom. So if you are 40, write 40 fond memories. They don't have to be a memory from each year of your life....just a total number of memories for every year she's mothered you! She'll love it, trust me! It represents thoughtfulness and giving of your time. Have Kleenex on hand too! :)

My girls got me an apron & monogramed coffee mug in my favorite color. (pink). I loved it.
With the coffee mug, she put in a bag of my fav coffee shop coffee. And also a bottle of coffee flavoring.

This isn't a fancy gift, but depending on your mother's economic status, have you considered calling a utility company and paying on one of her bills--electric, gas, water, trash, phone, cable TV, insurance, property tax, etc. It might be a pleasant surprise for her to find that she has a credit somewhere, easing her probably limited income. I'm only middle aged, and I'm already finding out that I certainly don't need more things. How about a blueberry plant in a large pot that will give her berries for years? A cleaning service to help her clean her home, do her laundry, etc? Call meals on wheels and give her a month of prepared meals if she's old enough. Some grocery stores make fruit baskets and deliver them too--you can call and charge it. Check around, I'm sure there will be many more holidays to buy for.

Do like I do. I order my mom & dad food/food stuff/juices/vegetables/ice cream/ yougurt etc. from Schwann's Frozen Food. The big trucks deliver the food to them and the food is guaranteed. If she doesn't like any of it they will take it back no questions asked. Most of the foods are already cooked and all she has to do is to reheat them in the micro or taster oven.

My folks have never complained at all about the foods they get. Try it and you will see many wonderful things you can send your mom or anyone for that matter. We do this for yearly gifts to several different people which makes it a lot easier on me and really easier on our budget! IF there isn't a Schwann's delivery truck in her area, THEY will mail what you order for her (in dry ice) to her (but) they are located in all 50 states & with several branches. They are a God send to us. Everyone eats and everyone loves this food! Keep me/us informed on what you do.

Even though my suggestion may have a few flowers, have you thought about the fruit bouquets? They are within your price range and gives mom a unique gift with enough fruit she could eat before going bad :)

I agree with Glenn'sMom about the plant. If she likes gardening, you might send something that could be transplanted to her garden and have it for years to come.

You could subscribe to one of those gift a month things for fruit. Or maybe a magazine subscription. I usually send my mother a plant (this year lavender) because she can usually get one to last a year.
