Colorful Perennials In Northern TexasHardiness Zone: 8a Samantha from Dallas, TX Feedback About This Post:RE: Colorful Perennials In Northern TexasSedum, cyclamen, crocus, camelia will work in the soggy winter Texas months. Annuals like pansies, violas, kale, snapdragons, stock, dusty miller and primrose will also work. Fall plants will satisfy till the first frost such as mums, petunias, croton, salvia gregii (autumn sage). Post By Fidget (Guest Post) RE: Colorful Perennials In Northern TexasHow about flowering kale & cabbage? Camellias grow in Louisiana. Do they grow in Texas? They are beautiful during the colder months. Pansies are beautiful. Post by mulberry204 RE: Colorful Perennials In Northern TexasI'm also from DFW. There are a lot of people around here plant Pansies. They have lots of color and do very well here, even in the snow. Also ornamental kale is used a lot. It's loves cool to cold weather, and does good Fall through the Winter. Post by Cindy in Texas RE: Colorful Perennials In Northern TexasI'm in DFW as well and would like to know more about the mum idea. Is it a good idea to plant the potted mums like Home Depot and other stores sell, or should we grow our own from seeds? Post by chretienne RE: Colorful Perennials In Northern TexasMums are always good. Just be sure and deadhead them after the first bloom and you'll have them blooming again later in the fall. Trim them down to ground level for winter (mayb Jan for our climate) and they come back bigger and full of blooms every year. Post by fldame |
