Wrinkles on My Wedding Dress

Can anyone tell me how I can safely and effectively get the wrinkles out of this myself? It's satin peau (I think I spelled that correctly). Also, some of the petals on the flowers are bent, I need to straighten these. My wedding is in just a couple weeks. The gown is too long to hang in the shower, would an iron ruin it?

RE: Wrinkles on My Wedding Dress

I would like some help on ironing out wrinkles on a wedding dress. My niece is getting married but taking her formal wedding portraits on Friday, January 2nd. I live out in the country and have to travel at least 45 minutes to town. I know it will be to late for me to get it to a cleaners. Can you give me some ideas on how I can do something at home?

RE: Wrinkles on My Wedding Dress

My wedding is in a few weeks and I am afraid to take my dress to dry cleaners. Can I steam this at home? It has organza overlay which is kinda wrinkled, but not very badly... I noticed that organza doesn't have as much wrinkles as other fabrics.
Is it possible to steam it in my bathroom, or should I buy the steamer? Thanks!

My dress had a silk organza overlay that wrinkled terribly. We had good success using a steamer filled with purified water.

how to iron my silk wedding dress?

OK i need some serious help in here.
my fiance shipped my silk wedding dress straight from the factory and he says it's wrinkled like a peice of paper! the sales woman said to take it to a professional and tell him/her 10 times the the dress is made out of silk, but he never bothered to ask her how silk should be ironed. i don't trust the dry cleaners in this city i live in. i have no doubt in my mind that they will directly apply a hot iron into the fabric..

every website is telling different stuff, some say use a steam iron and some say don't u ever use steam. i don't even know if i putting a thin towel on top and ironing over is going to remove these nasty wrinkles.. please help me.

Thanks so much! My wedding is in just one week. I have had my dress hanging loosely hoping the wrinkles would fall out, no such luck. But now I feel much better about ironing it inside out, on a low setting Thanks one less thing to worry about

Thank you so much, because I'm getting married April 26th and I wanted to avoid putting my dress in the cleaners. My dress is in a box, once I iron it, what can I place it in that will keep the wrinkles from returning.

most people don't know this - but satin is a weave not a fabric. You can have a silk satin - which is pure silk fibre in a satin weave - which is what most people call "silk". What is refered to as "satin" is actually polyester in a satin weave! Most irons have a polyester setting!

I design bridal gowns for a living and often iron gowns - I have even ironed silk though I wouldn't recommend it. For satin, use a lower setting and take your time. I recommend ironing the dress inside out so that if you do mess up it's inside the dress. If the dress has a fair amount of shine to it and you don't want to chance losing the shine, either iron inside out or place a towel on the dress and iron through the towel.

My dress has many layers. How can I get the wrinkles out without taking it somewhere?

Thank you so much for your responses. I think I will try the iron. I bought some of that wrinkle release spray but then I was afraid to actually spray it on the gown. Thanks again for your help :)

I heard it is bad to use a hand held steamer, that they drip on the dress, thus making water stains.

Try ironing on a low setting. If that doesn't work, a dry cleaner or tailor can do a PRESS only, without cleaning it.

RE: Wrinkles on My Wedding Dress

My dress was wrinkled pretty badly too. I had a travel size steamer, didn't do me any good whatsoever. I ended up ironing it. Just use a low setting and put a thin towel between the iron and the dress. It should be completely fine. If you're not sure, contact a professional seamstress first.
