Hand Wash Stained Coffee Carafe With Dishwasher Detergent

If you have a stained glass coffee maker carafe with the plastic top (pour spout area), resist the urge to clean it in the dishwasher. The sealant around the plastic section will soon shrink and start to leak coffee when you pour. Instead, just put in a spoon of dry dishwasher detergent and fill the carafe with water to below the plastic section. In a matter of seconds, you will see large dark flakes of 'stain' peeling off the inside of the glass. Swish with a dish brush, or pour out the water and wipe the inside with a sponge, then rinse. The glass will quickly be clear as new!

The fastest way to clean the inside of any coffee pot, including thermos', is two lemon slices swished around inside for just a few seconds. I find it best to microwave them for about 10sec. first! Totally natural too!

you can also use denture cleaner to clean thermos bottles, vases, and other hard to reach areas

Since dishwashing soaps and detergents effect the quality and taste of coffee, a simpler method is to fill the pot or carafe with hot water and add about a tablespoon of baking soda to it. Let sit for about an hour and rinse well. All old coffee residue disappears. This same method is also recommended for wine and beer glasses since soaps never really rinse well. Learned this at one of the premier California wineries.

I also use dishwasher detergent in my Farberware perculator coffee pot. About twice a month, I fill it with water to the maxinum cup limit, add the detergent and let it perk away. Comes out nice and clean. I rinse it well and have never had a problem.
