If you have crocheted for a while, I am sure you know the basic stitches. Here is an easy pattern to follow for you.

I normally would use an F size hook for this project. Keeping the holes smaller to hide the tub.

sc two stitches.

RD 1: In second stitch from hook 6sc, slip stitch, mark the round with a safety pin.
RD 2: 2sc in each stitch around. slip stitch the first and final stitch together. You should have 12 stitches in your circle.
RD 3: sc in first stitch, then 2 in next, continue around to end, again slip stitch together.
RD 4: sc around, slip stitch end of row.
Continue RD 4 until you have a piece the size of the bottom of the tub. Typically, this will take 2 more rounds.
RD7: To cover edges. In back stitch sc around to create the beginning of the edge. Remember to still slip stitch the end of the row.
RD 8: sc in first 2 stitches, then 2 sc in next stitch, continue around, this will widen the sides to make it fit properly.

Every other row, make an all sc row.

You can stick the tub in to measure the sides.

To finish it off, You will make another round like you did for the bottom. Once done, you an fasten it off and then sew it into place using a needle and some of the yarn.

There is the cover. You can also put some batting or stuffing around the container so that if a little one were to hit themselves, it would soften the blow a bit.

For a handle. Okay, here we go. This is gonna be a little fun. With another butter tub lid, you will want to cut the ring off. But, you want to keep the ring solid, so with an xacto knife cut the lid part off to just have the lip/ring. Now single crochet around this loop to hide the plastic. Once you have done this, the fun begins. Sc around the edge, in each of the stitches. You will want to do so for several rows creating a some what wide piece, now comes the fun part, you are going to crochet the sides together, this will create a handle, as you go around you will want to stuff this piece with batting or fiber fill. Fasten it off, you have the handle done.
