Homemade Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 2 cups self rising flour
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar, optional
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup milk, use between 2/3 to 3/4 cup milk

Directions

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray. Add flour to a large mixing bowl. Add sugar, if using. Mix dry ingredients together with a fork.

Cut in shortening with a pastry blender or use two table knives. The shortening should look like peas when cut into flour mixture. Do not totally blend shortening into the flour. Add milk. Use just enough milk to make a soft dough.

Stir mixture with a fork until a soft dough forms, on floured surface knead dough gently about 10 times.

Pat out dough about 1/2 to 3/4-inch thick. Cut out biscuits using a 2-inch biscuit cutter. Do not twist biscuit cutter when cutting out the biscuits. Place biscuits onto prepared baking sheet.

Bake 10 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve hot with butter, honey, jam, syrup or gravy.

RE: Old Dirty Dishes in Dishwasher

Place a mug full of vinegar in the empty dishwasher and run. This will remove most odors. This can be done once a month to keep the dishwasher running well and the dishes coming out clean. The vinegar breaks down fats and oils that accumulate in the dishwashers drains over time.

Also if the odor is very strong and pervasive take a tray and fill it with charcoal briquets (the ones you use for the summer BBQ) leave the tray in the dishwasher when not in use. Change the tray every 1-2 days until the odor is gone. This also works well for the Fridge or just about anywhere else you can think of.

If the load was never started she could just hand wash the dishes.

Any of your natural cleaners, i.e. vinegar, soda, bleach, should work. There might be a problem getting it to run after having been turned off for a long time. Some times they don't want to work after being off for a long time.
