Making Laminate Countertops Shiny

My counter tops already look like granite. They just have no shine. Is it safe to just add a few coats of polyurethane?

A high shine shows all the imperfections, even from across the room.

That was so simple, Do not know why I did not think of that, I will give it a try.

I would go to a shop that deals with laminate,get a small piece and paint on the polycrylic and see what the results are.
