Move A Few Essentials In Early

When you move, many places will allow you to have access a few days early. If this is possible, before the major move, bring enough kitchen tools to the new place to be able to fix a simple meal. Put them away in their new places. How LOVELY, to have a coffee pot, can opener, plates and glasses on the first chaotic morning in your new house.

Ditto to towels, sheets, pillow cases, a few outfits, anything that you'll need for "immediate survival". Pack for your "pre-move" as you would pack for a weekend away from home.

RE: Move A Few Essentials In Early

This is a great hint. When my kids and I moved, we moved some small things such as this into the house early, and then spent some time washing walls and shampooing carpets before we had the official moving day. Because we had cooking things on hand, we were able to put in a full work day at the house, and it was sort of like camping.

If you can't do this because of distance, I have seen other posters suggest packing the things you will need right away -- into boxes that are clearly labeled to be loaded last and unloaded first.
