Silly Putty Stains on ClothingThank you, Patty from Spencerville, IN Feedback About This Post:RE: Silly Putty Stains on Clothing
I got some of mine out of my hair with rubbing alchohol, and now i need to work on the stuck-together pocket. ;) Post by XiloDragon RE: Silly Putty Stains on Clothing
I fell asleep sitting at the computer while using silly putty for hand therapy. The hand with the putty rested for a time on my lap against dark green casual cotton trousers. Post by ProgressiveEd RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingSimple Green was the bomb! Used it with a toothbrush & it came out with the first application (I did pick & scrape all the putty that I could out first). Tried the hand sanitizer, but it still left a noticeable stain, then I went with the Simple Green, all gone, no problem! Thanks for your help. Post by panda bear RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingMy daughter left Silly Putty on our office chair. I sat on it by mistake of course. I have tried peanut butter, freezing it, and the WD40. None of it worked. But then I saw the hand sanitizer trick on this site...worked like a charm. Even with a globe of peanut butter still on my jeans, it came right off with a plastic scraper. Now for the chair.... Post by monki RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingI used rubbing alcohol on my son's clothing. Some areas had more putty than others. The areas with a lot of putty needed to be soaked w/ a lot of rubbing alcohol and let soak for a while. I went back later and rubbed some more off. Bottom line: Rubbing alcohol does work. The more putty on the material means more time it takes to get out. Post By MAMA (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingI used rubbing alcohol on my son's clothing. Post By MAMA (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingMy daughter had a sleepover and her friend got Silly Putty on a sweater I bought her for Christmas and a pair of her pajama bottoms that were on her bed. After seeing these different suggestions, I tried a combination of things: Avon Skin So Soft, LA's Totally Awesome (which you can buy at the dollar store, which is Totally Awesome) and Spray and Wash. I think that the Totally Awesome worked the best. Thanks for all of the suggestions. I got it all out! Post By Anna Sophie089 (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingSimple Green worked! Post By Deanna (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingMy 5 year old son smashed Silly Putty in his slipper (why, I don't know) so I used hand sanitizer and it worked great! Post By Diana (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingI just tried using hand sanitizer on my son's shirt that had a blob of silly putty on it. It surprisingly dissolves the putty and makes it easier to pick off. I then treated the remaining stain with Spray and Wash and a toothbrush. Thanks for all the great tips! Post By Wendy (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingI used the dual action oxy from the dollar tree and it got silly putty out of my daughters pants and sheet! She fell asleep with it in her hand! Then, I washed both with a large scoop of the oxy crystals and some detergent. When I first saw the mess I thought I would have to throw them away! Now, they are both good as new! And best of all - no stains! THANKS! Post By Beth (Guest Post) Silly putty on clothingMy son got silly putty in his hair, bed, and carpet! Shampoo, conditioner and a comb took it out of his hair! I used hand sanitizer on the bedding and carpet: just squirt some on the area and rub with your finger-tips until it comes out. It does still leave a little bit of a stain but it takes it out. Good luck to all! Post By Amber (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingI have it on my wallet and on my shirt and on my comforter. If you know how to get this out or off please post. Post By Enter your name. (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingI am trying your suggestions. Thanks. I also wanted to let you all know about a wonderful product made by Goo Gone (can only buy it online) called Ink Remover. It removes permanent marker from anything - clothing, furniture, appliances, plastic. Great product! Post By Jill (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingI'm 15 and my little brother thought it would be funny to stick silly putty on me while I was sleeping. Of course it was on my favorite shirt. I put OXi Clean spray on it let it sit and scraped it off with a disposable butter knife! Took 3 minutes! Glad my shirts ok! Post By Enter your name. (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingWe had 1/3 of a ball of SP stuck in one lump at the scalp on the back of my 3 yr old daughter's head. We removed most of it with scissors, then drenched with Suave conditioner with detangler and the rest combed right out. Post By JK (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on Clothing
My son got his silly putty in his shirt, shorts and flanel bed sheet. I read the suggestions here on this list. I tried the freezing , scraping with a popsicle stick and got the bulk of it off. The I tried Goo-gone on the shirt stain but it did not do much. The shirt and shorts are sythetic fabric. With the suggestion of stain removers I tried Oxyclean (about 2L water with 1/2 scoop of cyrstals) to soaked the shirt and shorts for about 1 hour. Then I scrubed the areas with a fingernail brush and the stain was gone. There was spot of silly putty that I had not scraped off of the shorts that simply wiped off. With a new batch of water and Oxyclean the stain in the bed sheet also scrubbed out easily. Note when I soaked the stains, the stained surface was isolated and placed on top of the Oxyclean solution. Eventually the entire shirt and shorts were in the solution but with the bed sheet only the stained area was in the solution. Post By Bruce Samhaber (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on Clothing

It's been there for 3 months now. Post By sandyb (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingRubbing alcohol worked really well to get the actual putty out but now I have a huge pepto bismal pink stain on my daughter's shirt. I'm going to try the washing step and I'll report on how it goes. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Post By Julia (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingI used the alcohol method on a fuzzy blanket of my daughters and it came right out with hardly any effort. I'd certainly try it in on clothes now that I had such success. For a dryclean only item, I'd take it to your cleaners and see what they can do and tell them about the alcohol - they'll know how the fabric will react. Post by kimmom RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingI gave my son so much grief about getting a big blotch of silly putty on one of his best sweaters... now I feel a little stupid because it took me 30 seconds on the internet to find the remedy (rubbing alcohol, YEAH!) and 30 seconds to put it to the test and the stuff just came off with a rag. Wow! Post By Connie (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingYou guys are awesome, my husband just got back from Pebble Beach and bought a new $150 pullover, 100% polyester. My son had silly putty on one of his socks and it transferred in the wash to this shirt, I use the rubbing alcohol method and it looks brand new again. GOTTA LOVE THE INTERNET! Post By Nadine (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingI used shaving cream it works so good! Post By Sadie (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingI just tried the rubbing alcohol with a butter knife on my van seat and the silly putty came right out. Thank goodness! Post By Christi (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingRegular rubbing alcohol dissolves the silly putty and it will wash right out. Post By Enter your name. (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingI've tried putting my jeans in the freezer. It was there for 2 weeks and the SP is still there. DOESN'T WORK! I am happy though to see that rubbing alcohol may do the trick. Thanks for sharing! Post By Tatiana (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingI just sat on the couch and realized that I sat right on a big blob of silly putty. Of course, it was stuck both to my pants and the couch. The rubbing alchohol worked in a matter of seconds and both my pants and the couch are like brand new again! Thank you to all for sharing the great advice! Post By MrsBelladonnaS (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingUsed the rubbing alcohol method on ultra suede and it took it off right away. Post By JAG (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingMy daughter rubbed the Silly Putty into her favorite pajama pants (100% polyester) because she thought she could get a picture of Strawberry Shortcake. While the putty was still gooey, I used a Q-tip to soak the putty and surrounding area with rubbing alcohol. I then used a butter knife that was a bit serrated to scrape it off slowly. It removed all of it without damaging the material. Post By Beth from Michigan (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on Clothing
My grandson fell asleep with silly putty on his pajamas and I used rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball and on the wrong side of pajamas and then used a credit card to scrape excess silly putty off pajamas. It worked wonderfully. I recommend this procedure to everyone. Post By LINDA (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingLove this website. I just tried this solution on my daughters new velour pant set. It worked wonders. Thanks. Post By Tammy in Texas (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingWintergreen scented rubbing alcohol worked wonder's on my little 3 year olds cotton pajama pants in which he slept on silly putty all night, freezing and icing was totally worthless. Thank you Post By mdk84 (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingEthyl rubbing alcohol worked the BEST. I wouldn't even mess w/ goo gone after using both on fleece and cotton bedsheet. So glad I found this website! Post By Lisa David (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingJust wanted to offer a non-toxic solution for removing Silly-Putty from clothes: my son had it on on pants (jean-like material) and I used Simple Green. I sprayed it full-strength directly on spot and scraped with credit card. Had to spray a few times, and I kept scraping but within minutes I had it all removed. Hope this works for you! Post By Faith Williams in Michigan (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingThank you! Now I can get my daughter's shirt free of silly putty! Post By Gabby (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on ClothingAfter sitting on my 3yo son's silly putty in a brand-new shirt, I just now took rubbing alcohol, saturated a cotton ball, then used that to soak the back of the area that the SP was stuck on. Worked like a dream -- the silly putty released and my son can even have it back now! Post By Gem (Guest Post) RE: Silly Putty Stains on Clothing
