Rotting Meat Smell in CarI've tried EVERYTHING I can think of to get the smell out of the car, but nothing is working. I just read the article about the mice and the use of borox. I cleaned out the car totally, but some of the blood got into the carpet, and I am guessing that is what is smelling so terribly bad. I scrubbed it with some household carpet cleaners. I don't want to end up having to pull up the carpet, but I fear that might be my only option. I'm in Texas, so it's quite hot right now. I don't know if the smell is ever going to leave, but I can't stand to get into the vehicle. Any ideas on how to get rid of the smell would be greatly appreciated. Friday Feedback About This Post:RE: Rotting Meat Smell in CarOne time when I suddenly had one horrible smell in my car, and I slowly found out that a gallon of milk had leaked into my trunk, and my daughter didn't tell me about it. The only thing that worked to get rid of that smell was white vinegar poured until the carpeting was soaking with the vinegar, and I left the trunk lid open for several days, and when it dried, it looked perfectly fine, and no smell since. Some meat was accidentally left in a bag in the rear floor board my vehicle for about 2 days. The smell is horrendous to say the least and it's not even hot weather. I tried pouring 2 pints of hydrogen peroxide on it and it worked temporarily but the smell was back the next day. I should add that the smell is not as bad as it was before but it is still there. Sorry about the liver, I can't imagine the odor ~ I had a pan of turkey and gravy spill all over the back seat, very greasy as well. At first it smelled like a restaurant in my car, but after a week, well, yuk. I hope by now you have removed the odor. But for future smells or people just now looking for help. Post By Diane (Guest Post) RE: Rotting Meat Smell in CarI have the same problem and I feel for you. I'm online right now to search for some help. I agree greatly the smell is terrible. I left meat on the floor in the front seat under a towel. (about 4-5 days) Post By Jenn (Guest Post) RE: Rotting Meat Smell in Carcoffee grounds got the gasoline smell out my garage maybe that will help Post By kath (Guest Post) RE: Rotting Meat Smell in CarWhen I want to get blood out of clothing..I just use shaving cream. It works like a charm. Good luck Post By chev37 (Guest Post) RE: Rotting Meat Smell in Car
When I get blood on my clothing a pour hydrogen peroxide on the spot. I wait until it quits bubbling and then I rinse. It might work in your car if you pat it out with rags or paper towels. Post By Red (Guest Post) RE: Rotting Meat Smell in CarPLEASE be careful about leaving the trunk open. Children like to hide and that would possibly be an "open" invitation. I remember hearing about some children dying in a trunk they crawled in and then couldn't get out. Post By Diana (Guest Post) RE: Rotting Meat Smell in CarDon't know if this will work but I would try soaking the area where you think the blood spilled in vinegar. I would pour it freely over the area - get it really wet. If blood is in the carpet the smell won't leave until the blood is gone. Using alot of vinegar may rinse out the blood and remove any remaining smell. Leave the trunk open so it can dry well. Post By Enter your name. (Guest Post) RE: Rotting Meat Smell in Car
Once the carpet is dry, sprinkle baking soda all over it. Heavily. Let set a few days. Vacuum up the baking soda and then clean. Post By Tawnda (Guest Post) |
