Removing Rubber Odor from Steering Wheel Covers

I have purchased two different steering wheel covers and they both have a very strong rubber like smell which really bothers me. I would like to find a way to remove the smell so I can use them. I have tried leaving them outside in the sun but it hasn't helped at all.

Try spraying it with white vinegar and see what happens.
