The most efective way to remove a water stain is also the most dramatic. First you need some methylated spirit (denatured alcohol), slightly dampen a soft cloth (towelling is best) and wipe the dampened cloth over the water mark. You do not have to follow the outline of the mark exactly but you must not put on too much. It should be just enough that it will evapourate away very quickly. Before it evapourates though comes the dramatic bit, you set a match to it, just like you would flambe food. The flame will flare up and then die down. If in any doubt blow it out. You should see that the mark has gone, if not ait 5 minutes and have another go. Once the mark is gone just wax the furniture with a soft beeswax polish. The polish should help to repel any future spills.

To remove water stains from your furniture, use mayonnaise. Scoop a tablespoon out, rub in a circular motion and it will be gone.
