Jack Russel Ate a Baby Sock

Jack Russel Ate a Baby Sock
My male 3.5 year old Jack Russell Terrier, approx 23 lbs, ate a baby sock about 4 days ago. Now he seems to be acting pretty normal, and he is having bowel movements regularly, but I'm not sure if he has passed then sock or not. I tried the peroxide within 10 minutes of him eating it, but he didn't vomit? So should I be concerned?

He is holding his food down and not vomiting, but after I took him for a run this afternoon he came in and drank some water. Unfortunately he jumped in my wife's lap and threw up water and saliva on her arm. This is the only time he has thrown up to my knowledge. Other than that, he seems to be interacting with my other Jack normally. He plays, runs, eats, sleeps, and poops all normal. It has been 4 days, should I be concerned?

Since we have had our baby our dog has gotten to quite a few of her socks and ate them. She has even pulled them off her feet when we were not looking to eat them. She has always vomited them up within a few days to a week. I was told by my vet that as long as she is still having a bowel movement she is okay.

Canned Solid Pumpkin NOT pumpkin pie filling is given to dogs about 2 tsps to help loose stools, and constipation and some people give it to them on regular basis to keep them regular. I had a yorkie who shredded a cottenell tp package of 24 rolls and tpd the bedroom and us in the bed, and not one inch of paper was usable.

The yorkie ATE all or most of the 24 cardboard rolls. The vet said to put him outside and he had one poopy day out there and he had his pumpkin to help. He was fine he did not like being outside but it was for the best that day. Check with your Vet and Good Luck. Your dog is gorgeous I LOVE LOVE the nose and the little fat muzzle around the Jack's nose. I miss mine.

I watched animal planet vets and they give the animals pumkin pie filling for them to pass stuff because it helps pass stuff. They even use it on iguanas that ate gold coins. He passed it.

Look in the back yard first - it might be there rolled in a bunch of poop.
It also might not have been eaten - look under the sofa...we once thought the dog ate something and it turned out to have rolled under the furniture (hidden by the slipcovers).

Someone I know with a yard service told me that one owner's dogs eat socks all the time and that he has to clean up the yard before the mowing - and wishes they'd pay him extra!

Do yourself a big favor...get an xray. It can be a holiday gift to your wife. Nothing can replace the love of a pet, and he is counting on you to do what is best for him. Best of luck. hope to hear back with good results.

I have a malamute and when we first got her, we left leather shoes out. She ate a sandal, velcro and buckle and half digested shoe came out in the poop. I think the sock was probably digested all the way if it is pooping normally. If he throws up again I would worry. Hope this helps

I don't suppose you need another person telling you to get the dog in for an x-ray and hope you have by now. Please come back and post what the outcome was.

Best of luck to you and your doggie!

My daughter's dog ate a dressing off of his foot recently and it took him 8 days to pass it.

Your dog could die from a blockage. Please take him to the vet now. It is better to have him examined when they can keep him calm rather than face emergency surgery.

Better to be safe than sorry by taking him to the vet for an x-ray ... If the sock is still in his tummy the x-ray will show it ... I had a cat once that I caught eating fishing line off of my former husband's fishing pole ... I was worried sick that maybe he had ingested a small bluegill hook or a sinker and had no idea how much line he had swallowed by that point ... Anyway, it was worth the money for the x-ray for peace of mind ... It turned out he had only swallowed line (a couple of feet worth that bunched up in his tummy) and, Blessedly, it passed just a day after the x-ray or he would have needed surgery to remove it :-o

Once he passed it, it was kinda of humorous because it was a funny hindsight thought to see this cat attached to the pole via the fishing line ... Guess you could say he was 'caught' ;-)

Maybe he didn't really eat a sock? My JRT has eaten the poly stuffing from toys and passed it, but it was a small amount and I only knew he passed it after the poop part had disintegrated! Should you take him to the vet for an xray?
