Taking Care of ClematisThe theory that clematis like their feet cool and their head in the sun is true, so be sure to put several inches of mulch at the base of the vine. Feed with liquid fertilizer throughout the growing season. A newly planted clematis needs lots of water to get established especially if your planting it along a wall or fance, or there is a dry spell. I prune my clematis back in mid-May here in Ontario, Canada. Zone 5
By Sandra Feedback About This Post:RE: Taking Care of ClematisPS--wonderful tips about keeping clematis cool and well-drained. I love the curiosity among everyone in this forum--not to mention the heartfelt and intelligent responses! Post By bekkicat (Guest Post) RE: Taking Care of ClematisDoes anyone know if there is a way to propagate clematis from a stem? (Or if there is any way to do so.) I have a fence that is ready and waiting! Post By bekkicat (Guest Post) RE: Taking Care of ClematisClematis need good drainage. I put gravel down below a bit, then dirt etc.. Also shale rock is better than mulch - really keeps the heat out. Post by Angellface |
