Empty Wine Bottle Gift IdeasJean Feedback About This Post:RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift Ideas
" Take a piece of string or thin cord. Soak it in kerosene, lighter fluid, etc. Tie it around the base of the bottle where you want the cut. Light it. Let it burn for several seconds. Plunge it into a pail of cold water. It will come off right where the string was." Post by mctc RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift Ideas

To NICOLERENEE: Post By Dan (Guest Post) RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift IdeasI have gone through 5 bottles tonight trying to drill a hole in them..help! Post By Julie (Guest Post) RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift IdeasThe string of lights is a good idea, to avoid the heat issue use LED's. Post By Jess (Guest Post) RE Lights in wine bottleWhen I put in 20 strings of lights, the bottle gets real hot to the touch. What else can I use. They don't make 10. Post By Lucille (Guest Post) RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift Ideas
I drill a hole on the lower side ( close to the bottom) of the bottle, fill with a 20 count mini light strand, them marbels. At the top I put rubber grapes ( red grapes for red wine, etc.) with a nice ribbon. They make great gifts! And cost next to nothing to make. Post by NICOLERENEE RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift IdeasTo drill a hole in the bottle without it cracking: if you don't care about the label it is fairly simple. just run like warm water over the area to be drilled, drill for a min. or so, rinse the hole and continue this until hole is made. I f you want to keep the label, do the same as above, but try putting a towel in the sink (to rest the label side on) and try not to get the label wet. We have still broke a few, but this method seems to work for us. Post by NICOLERENEE RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift IdeasI went to my local restaraunts and asked them if I could have their empty wine bottles rather than throwing them away. They were glad to give them to me. I soaked them in hot, soapy bleach water. The labels came off really easy after that. I just used a fork or butter knife to scrape the rest of the glue off!! There can't be any dead spots or spots that are significant;y deeper that other sections. A cutter works better because the score is narrower. I'm assuming the hacksaw blade is thicker than a cutter score might be. Post By Thad (Guest Post) RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift IdeasYou could fill them with Bubble bath or bath salts :) Post By Amanda (Guest Post) Bottle cracking when making glasses...
Does anyone know how to stop a wine bottle from cracking when it is being cut? I am scoring the bottle with a special hacksaw blade and then spinning the bottle over a candle until it cracks. I seem to have a 15% success rate of getting the bottle to crack evenly without any extra bad cracking. The other 85% are not worth giving as gifts...any good technique tips out there? Post By Ryan (Guest Post) RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift IdeasI would like to see if anyone can tell me where to purchase empty wine bottles? Is there a website? Basically pass the wire around the bottle. Pass electricity through the wire. Turn power off. Squirt the bottle with cold water where the wire was and it will crack around the bottle. I haven't tried this, but a tile saw should work. Post By me (Guest Post) RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift IdeasIN REFERENCE TO DRILLING HOLE IN WINE BOTTLE. yes, Post By connie (Guest Post) RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift Ideasstuff the lights into the bottle, and leave the cord hang out of the top, (about 12 ")replace the cork, with a nick in it for the cord. garnish and the cord will be covered, plug in. NO NEED TO DRILL A HOLE FOR THE CORD, that would be sense less. Post By patty g. (Guest Post) RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift Ideasput mini christmas lights in them, put a cork on top and garnish with x-mas flowers, grapes, and a ribbon, and plug in ...looks festive for christmas."" Post By patty g. (Guest Post) RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift IdeasI am interest in Making hurricane shades for my candles. I saved some cobalt blue wine bottles and have been trying to cut the bottom of the wine bottle off. I haven't had much luck getting a clean break on the bottle. I made a jig to hold the wine bottle and glass cutter to get straight cut line. After I scratch a cut line with the cutter I lightly tap the bottom, but I has never been a clean cut. I also filled the bottle with water and then put a cork in the bottle and hit the cork...which will compress the liquid a pop the bottom of the bottle off. It still is not a clean cut! Anyone have any other ideas....Thanks Post By Matt (Guest Post) RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift Ideasthey make a special drill bit that can drill through glass, check your local hardware store,or lowes, menards, home depot Post By imaqt1962 (Guest Post) RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift IdeasHow can I put a hole in a wine bottle? Post By Markuk (Guest Post) RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift IdeasIt's interesting idea to use your empty bottles as a lamp base.just collect some interesting things like beads, pebbles, dryflowers, wood flakes etc.and fill the bottle with these things or any other thing that appeals to you, or you can paint it with stained glass paint. After filling or painting adjust the bulb holder on the top and then put on lamp shade. Post By maria (Guest Post) RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift IdeasRemove label and writing printed on the bottle can be removed with nail poish remover. Drill a hole in the side of the bottle, near the bottom. Feed in a small strand of mini Christmas lights from the bottom and garland from the top. Add a nice ribbon around the neck, and voila, just plug it in. Can decorate the outside of the bottle too, depending on how crafty you are- paint with season appropriate items, like snowflakes. Post By Lisa (Guest Post) RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift IdeasI received a gift a few years ago made out of a wine bottle. The person used a glass cutter to cut the bottom off, then coiled some copperwire through the inside of the bottle. The wire then came out of the mouth of the bottle, where they bent it into a hook. At the bottom they put a taper candle (in the coiled copper) and when lit is was a beautiful lattern for outdoor entertaining. Post By Virginia (Guest Post) RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift IdeasYou could use a product call Un-Do to take the label off, sterilize the bottle, fill it and then reapply the label. Un-Do removes labels, stickers, etc without ruining the label. Scrapbookers use this product all the time to remove stickers that didn't get placed just right without tearing the paper underneath. Post By Enter your name. (Guest Post) RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift IdeasA good idea would be to put a nice note with the bottle and call it something like 2nd honeymoon bottle. Everytime they make love they have to put a $1.00 in the bottle. And that money then goes towards a second honeymoon. My husband and I have one and have emptied it twice now and put it in a special account to earn interest also. Good luck! Post By BethieNC (Guest Post) RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift Ideas10 - 15 minutes in the oven at 200 F will sterilize the bottles and won't damage the labels on the wine bottle. Rinse the wine bottles without damaging the wedding label first. Go ahead and refill them then with wine or whatever. I do a lot of home canning and frequently sterilize my jars this way. Jars with a cheese whiz or spagetti sauce store label on them are not affected by being in the oven for this short period of time. Post By Enter your name. (Guest Post) RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift IdeasBath salts Post By Bert (Guest Post) RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift IdeasWhy not a "message in a bottle?" Find a bunch of wonderful quotes on Love or family or whatever and print them out on some nice paper. Roll it up tight and put a small seal or piece of tape on to hold shut. Place in the bottle and add a cork. Post By Kelly (Guest Post) RE: Empty Wine Bottle Gift IdeasTry filling with homemade bath salts and or bubble bath. You could add a few rolled washcloths tied with ribbon, soaps and such and put all in a "wine bucket" for their bathroom. Post by Reba Gayle Shurden |
