What is Siding?

I know this isn't strictly a request for a tip but I really just want to know what "siding" is - is it just the outside walls of a house or something different? I see it mentioned now and then or in a book as a reference to "aluminum siding".

Sharylesley from Australia

RE: What is Siding?

Siding is on the outtermost side of the walls of the house.. There are studs.. wooden braces or supports.. and insullation.. then the siding is on the outside.. Aluminum and vinyl are waterproof types of siding.. they usually are fashioned to look like wood which is the classic siding.. wooden boards laid horizontally...
