Jeans Skirt with RuffleBy Stella RivetCut jeans on the inseam all the way around. Cut jeans to the length you prefer it is always better to cut less at first and cut it shorter after you try it on. Sew two parts of the front part on the legs together, then sew the back two parts of the legs together. You will want to sew in a straight line rather than following the shape of the fabric. After you have sewn it together try it on and make sure you do not have to make any adjustments. If everything is okay then cut off the excess fabric inside the skirt. Now fold up quarter inch of fabric from the bottom and sew a hem. Cut long strips of jean fabric about 2 inches wide. You will need to sew a few long strips together, this needs to be much longer that the diameter of the bottom of the skirt. You will use this for the ruffle. Start at one end of the long strip and place it on the inside of the skirt about a half inch in. Sew about one inch then fold over part of the strip and sew over the fold continue to do this for all the way around the bottom of the skirt. You do not have to make this uniform, just fold over when you want to. I always folded when I hit the seam from sewing parts of the strip together so it would be hidden. I kept the end of the ruffle with out a hem, to prevent it from fraying too much I sewed a straight stitch all the way around the bottom.
Editor's Note: The distressed look is very popular with young folks. This skirt definitely has that distressed look and is a fun and easy project for your budding clothes designers. Feedback About This Post:RE: Jeans Skirt with Ruffle
I love working with denim I try to save everything.(I am in therapy now being a pack rat so as soon as I sign off of here I have to start boxing things up and making a place for each product and craft.Let the fun begin.hehehe Post by Charityrenee RE: Jeans Skirt with RuffleThat is so cute. We used to do that many years ago but the ruffle is a nice addition. I am not young, 53, but in good shape. One of my favorite skirts is a jean skirt I bought. But I am not comfortable in the new low waisted design( also from the 60's) If I use a pair of jeans I have with a normal waist line I would have a more comfortable skirt. Thanks for the great retro idea. Valery Post By Enter your name. (Guest Post) RE: Jeans Skirt with Ruffle
I did the same thing with a pair of jeans that were way too large. Had to take in the waistband in addition. Post by cookwie |
