Assuming the grandchild will spend time at Grandma's house, give her things the baby can use while there - toys, playpen, umbrella stroller, high chair, etc. Anything the parents don't have to haul to grandma's house will be a blessing! I wouldn't bother with diapers, formula, etc., because you don't know what the mother will typically use for the baby, and it could just go to waste.

Two things that I have bought for new grandmas:
A container that says "Grandmas Treats" (They are usually little jars or pails for candy, suckers or coookies)
The other was a book, "365 things to do with your grandchild" Don't know where I found it or anything else about it.
You could give any nice nursery rhyme book,

giving grandma gifts she'll need for when she has the baby. (ex)cloth diapers (for shoulder dripping,or for under the baby when changing,in case need diaper because baby's mom didn't pack enough)
little things for grandma to play with baby that stays there. bibs,how about one of those traveling high chairs you attach to the table. umbrella stroller. etc.

In addition to the items listed above for a basket, it's nice to have baby wipes, baby wash, a thermometer specifically for baby, etc. to have at grandma's house, so the parents don't have to bring all those things for each visit if they live a distance away. Also when our grandson was born a friend sent a book and pair of socks...she said grandparents always need to have a pair of dry socks handy! lol

I would put together a little odds n ends kit, especially if the baby lives close (for unexpected visits.) I saw Debbie52 mentioned sippy cups. Maybe a pretty bottle with a sample or small can of DHA enriched formula (parent's choice has a sample promotion going on) or buy a 4 pack of ready to use. Include some easy clean bibs, a pack of onesies and a small pack of size 1-2 diapers and a pack of wipes. And put it all together in a large bag, basket, or even one of those "moses" baskets as an extra "bed". This is all depending on the size of the party, of course. If you go to babydepot.com (part of Burlington Coat Factory) they have some of the best prices for stuff. You never know when during an emergency the baby may need to stay....we went through an apartment fire when my second child was two months old, and had to buy a lot of essentials because we didn't know how long we would be!

I've never heard of a grandma shower before. Hopefully this woman is happy about becoming a grandma??? Photo albums, picture frames and disposable cameras sound like the best bet. Maybe put together a grandma bag....sort of a diaper bag that she could have her own baby items for those times that she'll no doubt be baby sitting and possibly taking the baby out places. You could also get her some sippy cups to keep at her house....those come in real handy!

What Grandma does not have a brag book? I would check to see if she has a digital camera, if she does, I would get her photo paper and an album. If she does not maybe get film (or disposeable camera) and an album. Or, if there is a lot of people to chip in maybe purchase a digital camera for her.
Another idea is a Grandma book. My mom got one a few years ago for my children- it is a book that you fill out, about how you grew up, stories from your life, advice on life, favorite recipes and etc. She is still working on it, I think this is a wonderful idea, I think that is one thing that everyone questions about once someone is gone from our lives. I believe that she picked it up from a bookstore for about $15.
