Hey, if you hate the '70s green counters --- paint them! There are all kinds of helpful posts about this on this site, and it worked for me. I now have "stone"!

You have to ask yourself if the counters are a true preferance in color. If you can honestly say NO then you need to make them look as if they were chosen intentionally . Add more green to the room. Choose a wall color that is one to two shades lighter than the counters. This will make them feel intended. If you are honestly happy with the color of the counters then make them stand out. Paint the walls a golden beige and choose a patterned curtain/drapery with geen in it. Something with a lighter background such as beige, cream or yellow. Also use geen in your accessories, sparingly. Be sure that they are distributed around the room instead of clustered in one area.

Go to a paint store and try to match a blue with your green that is a really beautiful combination when you have the right colors. Also Peach goes great with green. Like it has been said beige would be nice but a little color would be great with your cupboard's being white. Whatever you chose Good Luck, Darlene

Try a neutral color such as a taupe. This is soft and cozy. It will also allow you to accent/decorate in matching colors/shades of green and not over whelm your colors schemes. to much of one color can be "too much". Look for accents in the sage color.

My living room is sage green. The couch in there is chocolate brown and it looks so rich and cozy! It was surprising. My house has an open lay out and the kitchen, next to the living room, is "not too bright" yellow. Both look good with the sage green.

I, too have green countertops in my kitchen in a marble pattern. What I did was get a bunch of different shades of green color chips from the paint dept, and laid them on the countertop. Then I picked a color that was the same color as one of the lighter shades of green in the countertop. With the green on the wall, my green countertops don't stand out as much as they did when the walls were white.

I think a bright yellow would work well for you. Then I am sure you could find some kitchen accents that have both those colors in -- like sunflower patterns or teapots, whatever you like. Another idea is new ceramic knobs or handles for your cabinets that go with your color scheme, they are not expensive and really add to the decor. A bright cheerful kitchen is the centerpiece in every country home.

I agree with Glenn'sMom. You can use dark or light Hunter (blueish greens) or you can use dark or light Olives (yellowish-brown greens).
---> But as an accent color, pick things that are bright red or burgundy to give that room some "PUNCH"!
If you're tired of all that green, than use a golden tan or a golden beige with the sage green, that would also look nice!

I think you could use a darker sage green or if the counters are dark go lighter. I wouldn't paint the walls TOO dark - maybe just a shade or 2 darker.
