I used "Oxyclean" non-clhorine bleach stain remover (hydrogen peroxide based) to take a small stain out of a white shirt. Thought I had rinced it out and but later had yellow spots in front of the shirt. I didn't realize that the unwashed residue from the oxyclean would oxidize in the sun and turn yellow. Here's what worked of me. I dribbled some peroxide on a favorite white cotton cami to get out perspiration stains and hung it out on the pool towel rack, thinking Florida sun would help. Well it yellowed. Post By Terry (Guest Post) RE: Yellow Stain From Peroxide On White ShirtI used peroxide on white shirts to remove yellow stains. I threw them in the laundry basket with my other whites. The whites that came in contact with the hydrogen peroxide now have yellow stains where they made contact. I have tried stain removers, chlorine pens, etc. Any suggestions? Post By redwatertank (Guest Post) RE: Yellow Stain From Peroxide On White ShirtArgh! I just did the same thing - I don't think blood has anyting to do with it. I put hydrogen peroxide on a white skirt with a few rust stains and where the H.P. was it all turned yellow as I left it in the sun to dry. I am soaking it in bleach - but no luck yet. I'll try the whitening agent and see if that works - if not, I'll have to dye the piece. Post By vintage girl (Guest Post) RE: Yellow Stain From Peroxide On White Shirti did the same thing to a pillowcase. It had a small bit of blood on it, and made it through the washer and dryer before I noticed it was set in. So I soaked the whole thing in hydrogen peroxide overnight and it came out beautifully. Then I set it out to dry (so it wouldn't mold before I ran it through a load of whites. The side that faced the window and sunshine turned ALL YELLOW! I know it isn't left-over blood because there wasn't that much in the first place. Post by sweetcaroline Football Player
My son, (14 years old) just came back from football Post By Ginger (Guest Post) RE: Yellow Stain From Peroxide On White Shirt
Same thing happened to me. I think if the hydrogen peroxide is not rinsed out of the fabric soon after treating a stain, it turns yellow. I hoped bleach might work, I just stained my favorite white skirt today. Please post if you were able to remove the yellow. Good luck! Post By Guest (Guest Post) RE: Yellow Stain From Peroxide On White ShirtThe yellow sounds like you still have blood in the material. They have some whitening agents that are sold in uniform shops (where they sell white nursing uniforms) to keep uniforms from turning yellow from bleaching, etc. I don't know the name of the stuff, but if you will call a nursing uniform shop, I am sure they will tell you what it is. try putting peroxide on the yellowed spot. If it foams, there is still residual blood material. Be sure to rinse the area very very well with cool water, then launder. Post by beanygurl |
