Can I Purchase Bats?
Knowing that bats are excellent exterminators of mosquitoes, I would like to introduce them back into the area around our neghborhood. Now, my question is this: Can I purchase bats? And if so, where can I go to purchase them?

Bats will not stay in an area that is not desirable. They are finicky about where they sleep at night ;)
Bats are everywhere this time of year. If the habitat is good then your bats should be there. You cannot purchase bats.
Another good resource is from a company out of the Vail area. They may be able to consult with you as they work with bats all over the state of Colorado.

Checking with the Wildlife & Fisheries is good, and also check with your state university for Cooperative Extension Service Agents. Each of these services have somewhat different information. Both are already paid for with your tax dollars!

Well dang if i had known that i could have let you have some real cheap. We had over 60 living in our attic until this spring when several guys closed up their home up there. Now they are gone thank goodness. They still fly around here so they have not moved too far from us. We live in North Carolina where they are considered an endangered animal. Ha Texas has so many you need to find someone there... Good luck as our bats are at least out of the house now.

I would strongly advise against introducing any species (even if you think it should or already exists in the area) to any natural habitat. You have no idea what kinds of problems you can cause by doing this and it's illegal in many places because of the harm you can do.

YOu may have to contact your states wildlife division because it may be against the law to introduce any
animal into the wild. They may already even know
about the problem and be working on it. Remember
when someone put rabbits in australia?!

Bats only come out at dusk and are active at night. You may already have some and don't know it.

http://www.batcon.org has lots of information on bat conservation, but I doubt you can purchase bats. The bat conservation people may be able to help you figure out why you don't have them any more and how to attract them to come back.
