Cheap Wood Floor for a Family Room

Measure your room and buy enough chip board to cover your floor. Find a stain that you like to stain the floor. Use liquid nails to secure chip board to floor. After the stain add two coats of polyurethane to the floors letting it dry completely between coats. This floor gives a great earthy feel to a room. The stain will penetrate differently on all parts of the chip board so you will get a great multi-tonal effect.

It may depend where you are getting your pallets or what was being shipped on them. At my husbands former workplace, they were oak.
My friend finds those in the area that are oak as well.

Have you ever seen the wood they use for the pallets? A Lot of knots and not straight wood. How do you hide the nails? Most of the time pallets are made of Pine NOT OAK.

Has anyone done this?? my husband doesn't think it will work, but I want to try it as a thrifty method to fix our ugly and non-cleanable kithen floor.

A friend of mine used old pallets for her wood floor! They collected the pallets that are usually discarded outside of buildings, took out the nails and then nailed them to their old floor in their house. Pallets are generally a hard wood, most are OAK. They then sanded the floor and stained it. YOU should SEE this GORGEOUS flooring. It cost them next to nothing for this 1/2 to 3/4 inch wood flooring!
