Getting Kids Ready For Back To School
Here are some tips for getting kids ready for back to school.
- Start putting the kids to bed earlier every night so that by the time school starts they are used to a school time bedtime.
- Take them to the school for orientation, especially if they are just starting school or going to a new school.
- Get your school shopping done early both for clothes and supplies so it doesn't have to be so hectic.
- Have one last summer splurge even if it's something simple. Let them enjoy the end of summer.
- Find out what the school rules are on dress codes before you go shopping. Also talk to your children and set rules about what types of clothes they are allowed to wear before hand so it's understood. Also tell them what their budget for school clothes will be. If you are used to picking out their clothes, let them pick out one or two items that they really like and you can agree on.

RE: Getting Kids Ready For Back To School
Good tips. I would also like to add to be sure to have all of the kids supplies purchased for the first day of school. As a teacher, lots of times, I have asked for some special item -- special notebook, scrapbook, etc, for some project we are going to do -- journalling for the year, or something -- and 2 or 3 of the kids won't have gotten the thing yet, and so they don't get off to the start like everybody else. They do it on loose pages or some other type of book, and these things are lost.
Also, some people assume that we don't do much work on the first day or the first week. Wrong. We are back to business right away; pencils, pens, notebooks, crayons, sketchbooks, gluesticks are often all used on the first day, especially in the elementary grades. Primary teachers spend quite a bit of time setting up routines, teaching how to take out and stow away supplies, how to get organized for each subject, and if your child doesn't have the appropriate supplies, it causes confusion and mix-ups.
My students arrive on Wednesday of next week. Always an exciting time!!!! My youngest son graduated in June, so I have no one to buy school supplies for!!!!I am feeling left out!
