Shop for Greeting Cards at Thrift Stores

Greeting cards have gotten so expensive and my husband has a large family and lots of birthday cards to send out. So I look for nice birthday cards at thrift shops, when they have them. Just got a whole bunch at $.50 each - a savings of at least $2-3 per card! (It also helps to have them on hand, so you can send them out/give them out in a jiffy.)

I ALSO FIND VERY NICE STATIONERY AND NOTE CARDS.MANY TIMES STILL IN THE BOX CHRISTMAS CARDS AT THRIFT SHOPPES. THE PRICES ARE VERY CHEAP.

I always keep an eye out at yard sales, thrift stores, etc, for any cards that are blank inside (and make my own when I get cast-off scrap cardstock, posterboard, etc - often glue a pic from a mag on any 'marked' area). I like to write my own messages, and this way, you just pick a card from your stash with the front cover to match whomever you're giving it to & personalize it for whatever the occassion is.

I get beautiful cards at Dollar General and a dollar store in my town and they are .50 ea, not old but brand new and some are embossed and look much more expensive. Hallmark cards are very nice but too pricey for my liking. I also have various card programs and make them on my computer. I figure for the piece of card stock, envelope & ink I spend about .12 ea & I can personalize them.

When shopping at your local thrift stores, remember to ask about their greeting or all occasion cards. They're usually a lot cheaper than most places. I know our local thrift store's are. One thrift store sells their cards for .25 ea. and another sells theirs for .05 ea. (both complete with their envelopes). It's easier to stock up this way, much cheaper than $3.29 each at the grocery store.

Shop resale stores like Goodwill, or Salvation Army for greeting cards. I recently picked up a couple dozen very old, and very cute, birthday cards for 10 cents each! My friends think these cards are really unique, and it's becoming a trademark of mine!
