Hi!

You could try craigslist.com and type in your city and then "american girl doll" in the search box. I have found a few american girl dolls for sale in my community for around half the price. A lot of the Am Girl dolls sold on craigs list are gently used and many still have the original box and accessories. Be careful of dolls sold for full price or higher, some people are trying to make money on these, saying they have a discontinued doll you can't find anywhere else.

If you go to Target, they sell "Our Generation" dolls there. They are of less quality, but only 30 bucks.

I love the American Girl Dolls(I have two marisol,2005&niki,2007) I think there well worth the money, But, because of the price, I get most my accessories from target, Our Generation, is alot like american girl and is one of my favorivte non-american girl brands, I also would look into getting one of there horses, they come with more accessories then american girl horses

Hi Mackenzie, I hope you are still looking for your doll similar to AG, I came across this on Amazon and ran back looking for your post (I am looking for one too, for my 3 year old daughter), they have a version of an 18" doll that looks just like the AG, here's the link below, and best of all, as of today, the price posted is on sale for only $13.29! I believe they have two types, one with auburn hair/green eyes, and another with brunette hair/brown eyes.

Amazon is a safe and reliable website to purchase online, please ask your parents to assist you on the purchase.

I actually managed to find 3 different similar 18 inch dolls at Michaels Art Supplies and bought one for 12.50 Canadian using a 1/2 price coupon. They sell clothes for them as well. If you are into sewing, there are also many patterns out there for this doll so you can make your own clothes. I found a book of patterns for $5.00 and can now make her any original outfits my heart desires. That way, no other doll will have the same clothes as yours!

Try Ebay I have seen brand new and used dolls with accessories pretty cheap on there. Good luck.

Once you get your doll, get a pattern from the fabric store. There are lots of cute outfits there. Some of them match the ones in your American Girl magazine in every way except for fabric. What girl doesn't like to pick her own fabric? Have a blast!

Thank you! I have seen some there awhile ago... I recieved a TollyTots doll from my grandfather one christmas and played with it for awhile. But August of 06 he passed away so I decided to pack her up as a keepsake, even though she wasnt a high quality I did'nt want her to get messed up because she was very special (because me and my grandaddy were very close, and you probally understand). And I loved playing with her (my sister got one just like her) and we would play like they we're best friends. She had honey blonde curls and I believe the box said her name was Quinn. So the reason I want one that I buy is so I will be able to play with her and not break out in tears if she gets a scratch on her.

I know this is coming from an older adult, but have you tried the Dollar Tree store. They have a lot of name brand dolls and they may have an American Girl doll for around 10 to 20 dollars. Just a suggestion check for them at WalMart too. Good luck.

There are several ways - save
$ for it yourself & then say you have an "American Doll Fund" that you want everyone to contribute to instead of a birthday or Xmas present! And look out for good deals on eBay and used, but in good shape elsewhere....A lot of girls outgrow their dolls....
As, suggested, in the meantime, for sewing, etc., get as good a match for one as you can - I am sure they are out there.

Big Lots - I've seen 18" dolls there occasionally. No clothes on them, all ready for you to make them a wardrobe. Other 18" brands listed on ebay - Geotz Dolls, Faithful Friends by Heidi Ott, Savannah of Storybook Heirlooms.

Target has a line of dolls called Only Hearts Club. They have pets & accessories kind of like the American Girl dolls, but for a lot less $$. Check them out at www.onlyheartsclub.com

I live just outside of north memphis..... I will also check other places... My sister LOVES the bratz dolls (she has three or four...). I crochet so I will try to use that to earn some money, my aunt has offered 25-50$ for a scarf (and I have five aunts that would be willing to pay since I am trying to EARN my money instead of begging someone else to get it for me... in other words asking and asking and asking my dad.) lol. Well thank you very much!!!

Michael's craft store sells an 18" doll....it is the Springfield collection. They have blondes, brunettes, redheards, Hispanic and African/Amer dolls. I believe they are around $15.00, but clip their coupon from the weekly flyer and get 40% off. They are nice. I bought them and sewed outfits for them for all my granddaughters. There are many patterns available, some styled by designers. Look in Pattern books. Brand names can be nice (and expensive), but the lower priced ones are great too. I'm going to have to check the ones from Target.

I would say the best way to save money on them is to find them used - on eBay or in your newspaper or even on Freecycle. And evaluate carefully - you can have many outfits for just one dolll, so you really don't need more than one.

My question to you would be - do you want a girl doll or do you want an "American Girl" doll? The brand makes a big difference. Plenty of places sell high quality girl dolls - I used to buy tons of Cabbage Patch dolls for my day care kids (and prior to that, I used to enjoy them myself!) and they're half the price of an AG doll.

And you can do the same stories and such with your dolls - its even more fun to craft your own outfits for the dolls instead of accepting only the store-bought ones.

I am 23 but when I was your age I also received American Girl magazine and I LOVED the American Girl dolls! I was lucky enough to receive Samantha and Kirsten as gifts and they are beautiful dolls, worth the money in my opinion. Half the fun for me was looking at the catalogs and seeing all the amazing "stuff" you can get for them...
When I was younger and wanted an "expensive" toy for Christmas, I would sit down with my parents and figure out how much of a portion they would be willing to pay for. For the remainder of the cost, we would work out extra chores around the house and other things I could do to earn money. If your parents don't have the money to be able to do this, try neighbors or families in your church. You will be surprised at the number of little odd jobs people are willing to pay you a few dollars at a time to do!

My daughter only got her American Girl doll by getting it for a Christmas present one year. Before that she really wanted one and her Aunt Judi bought her a doll from Target that was very much like it. It was called a Generations Girl doll. It cost around $20.00 - $25.00.

A few years ago Madame Alexander dolls were quite popular for collectors.
There are some "non play with" Barbies. Put your crafting skills to work and put away a portion of your money for a collectible doll.
There are a lot of flea markets in the Memphis area where you could sell them. I don't know where your town is but Crossville has a fantastic flea market with a lot of craft buyers and sellers.

I think Target sells a knock off of the American girl dolls. My daughter liked the Bratz dolls when she was your age. I always thought those looked kinda creepy. I've found girl dolls at Dollar General for $5-$10 but you'd have better luck on those around Christmas time.
