Room with Honey Colored Parquet Floors
What about wall colors? I've tried doing a "decor storyboard" but every color I combine with the honey looks bad. I'm also in the market for a new couch. I can't decide what color I should go for. I thought about white but it might be to hard to care for. I've always wanted a red couch, but my sister says the red will make the floor look more orange. Maybe something more neutral like sage or taupe. Can anyone advise? EmilyRose from Canada Feedback About This Post:RE: Room with Honey Colored Parquet FloorsThey look like oak parquet which I have also. That is an expensive floor if it is real oak. I have light creamy beige walls, chocolate leather sectional, with colors of aqua, blue, and green for sheers and toss pillows. I have a couple of area rugs, chocolate. I live near the ocean, so I try to keep it light and airy. My decorations are of bamboo, shells, etc. You might not like those, depending on where you live, but they are appropriate for me. Post by Stngray RE: Room with Honey Colored Parquet FloorsCover it with a great area rug that compliments the floor and add pillows to your sofa to bring out the colors. It is a great color and you can go dark, bright or lighter in accents. Place a small blanket on the chair or loveseat to match... compliment it by using great colors. I have real oak hardwood floors in my house that are similar in color to the sample you've shown to us. I notice that some woods have a yellow undertone and some a reddish undertone. But I recently read an article that said to not be afraid to mix wood colors in a room. Our furniture is the very dark wood that is sold today. It has a reddish cast. The lighter, yellowish flooring sets it off nicely. Post By Carol in PA (Guest Post) RE: Room with Honey Colored Parquet FloorsYour dark wood furniture will probably look fine on parquet flooring. Many years ago, we lived in an apartment, and our dark pine dining room suite looked great on the parquet floor. Also, we used to have two white sofas, and we had a dog, but no children. Still, we had to shampoo the upholstery often to keep them clean - so often that the material wore out much sooner than it should have. I wouldn't buy a white sofa again, nor would I put a sofa with red upholstery on parquet. Earth tones would probably look nice. Good luck! Post By Jackie (Guest Post) RE: Room with Honey Colored Parquet FloorsYou are fortunate to have these vintage wood floors instead of carpet. Although your furniture is dark you need the contrast of the lighter color of the floors in the room. Soon your eye will adjust to the difference. If your floor does not seem as "anchored" as you like try using rugs under the sofa and dining table/chairs. Take a color from your sofa for the rug. They can be found inexpensively. Never underestimate the advantages of a good rug. A large one that incorporates small amounts of the honey-colored floor and the other colors you want to use in the room goes a long way to blending everything into a harmonious setting. Include a dark brown or black color for your current furniture and some red if that is what you want for a sofa. Post by melodybh RE: Room with Honey Colored Parquet Floors
I think the light floor would look very nice with dark wood furniture. I have laminate floors about the same honey color in my kitchen with walnut cabinets. I would never have picked it but now that I've seen it together I love it! I would not mix too many different woodtones together though. maybe just the two. Post By Lisa from Lena, WI. Any color will look awesome with these floors. Go for the red pier one is awesome place to shop modern touches to go with floor or you could try and Asia style would look nice in there; black and reds, orange and browns. Good luck Post By kathy (Guest Post) RE: Room with Honey Colored Parquet FloorsWhy not celebrate the difference and have several shades of wood in the room? Post by kimhis RE: Room with Honey Colored Parquet FloorsIf you have a spare piece of the parquet why not take it to the DIY store and colour match the walls to the floor. The lighter flooring quite often brings out the beauty of darker furniture. If the pieces of furniture are older it can also compliment them in an eclectic style. Live with it first before making any decisions and if all else fails sand down the floor and stain to match the furniture. Post by fergilan | |
