While travelling I packed a Mason Jar inside a special mug my wife got me for Christmas. Tried the hot/cold trick several times in the hotel room. No luck. At home I put light mineral oil between the two, tapped with a wooden meat tenderizing mallet after 1/2 hour. No luck, couldn't move the jar even a little. Put the blade of a table knife between the jar and mug, tapped it in with the mallet, moved it around tapped again and so on. Suddenly loose, took it out. Back in my wifes good graces!!

We had two pyrex glass bowls stuck together, and had tried to separate them using warm water, ice cubes in the top and a hot water bath in the bottom, soap, tapping with knives, etc. Nothing. Then, after one of these hot-on-the-bottom/cold-in-the-top treatments, we tried a light spraying of WD-40 around the stuck points, and tapped with a wooden spoon. bowls fell right apart. worked like a charm!

Soak both bowls in warm water mixed with detergent powder.
Then twist slightly while gently tapping with a toothbrush

I LOVE the internet! I had 2 bowls nested and stuck this morning...tried hot water, microwaving them, freezing them and pouring safflower oil between them Then I checked the net, found this site, got the WD40, tapped with a spoon and BINGO! Thank you!

Hot and cold worked for me. However initially my 2 different but glass cups didn't come apart until I used the wall to repeatedly tap with. Just turn upside down and tap against the wall but be careful not to let the inside cup fall and break on the FLOOR!

Thank goodness for this website! I had a sauce dish stuck inside a serving bowl. Finally sprayed with WD-40, put ice in small bowl & set larger bowl in hot water, then managed to get the tip of a paring knife between them & they popped apart.

Yup, WD-40 is the key! One squirt on my stock ramekins and they practically fell apart. Of course, I tried ice and cooking oil, to no avail, before I found this post.

The WD40 is the key. Having tried cold/warm/ice/waiting we applied WD40 to our two china bowls stuck together and with a few taps of a wooden spoon and some tugging apart they came.... and it took only 10 minutes not 3 hours :)

I placed a fine china coffee cup with a flat bottom pedestal inside a heavier china cup and the fine china cup be came stuck. I also used boiling water, placed ice in the inside cup and sprayed it with WD40. Tapped it with a wooden spoon and wow, they came unstuck. Earlier we had spent on hour trying to pry the inside cup loose with just hot water some canola oil and muscle power. I am tickled. I hand carried the china cup from England and it's special to me. You might want to try putting them in the freezer - the cold should make the bowls contract enough for you to separate them.

Glass Perfume Bottle Stopper stuck
I have a perfume bottle that has the stopper stuck inside. I have tried sitting the bottom in hot water and place ice on top. I thought about WD40 but I'm afraid the WD40 will slip into my very expensive perfume. Please help.

I have 12 melamine ice tea glasses. All were stuck together because of lengthly storage. A few separated easily, but most of them I had to work at for a long time (Over 3 hours) to get them to separate. The last two just would not budge. Tried hot and cold - top and bottom, reversing the hot and cold from bottom to top and top to bottom. Tried detergent suds, olive oil, heating, freezing! Zippo! !@*$@#$%*)&$! Nothing worked. Then I read your feedback and decided to take some of your advise. Put ice cubes in the top glass, dunked the outside glass in heated water, barely was able to slip a sharp knife between the glasses at various points while I sprayed the edge with WD40. One tap with the side of a knife and ALAKAZAM! Thanks to all of you, I just had some ice tea from one of the glasses!!!!!

Tried all of the methods described - no joy.
My husband suggested filling the bottom bowl with water (this took some time as they were stuck fast) and placing in the freezer he predicted that as the water froze the expansion would cause the bowls to part. He was quite correct.

The bowls have been stuck together for at least a year. I tried the WD 40. No luck I let it set in hot water with ice cubes in side the upper bowl. No luck I'll try leaving it sit in more & Hotter water for a while. Ant recommendations on what is best to tap the glass with? And where to tap the glass? I'm glad it has worked before, there is hope it will eventually work in this instance also. Thank you. Betty
P.S. IT WORKED after I put the bowls in a kettle with cool water and heated it on low + and put ice cubes in the upper bowl AND had put WD 40 between the two bowls and had tapped on them about four times with a wooden handled utensil. AND ALL THIS TOOK only 3 hours. Thank you!!!!! Betty in ORegon

When you get glass bowls stuck together, putting ice on the top and warm water on the bottom, it doesnt work. One easter my mother put them together and they got stuck. Luckily, we found the WD40 idea and it really seemed to work. Today we have both of the bowls!

My two bowls sat in my sink, stuck together for four days, just used the WD40 and they came apart immediately.. Thankful for the Internet!

I just successfully used WD40 to get two pyrex refrigerator containers apart that had gotten wedged together at an angle. I sprayed the oil, waited about half a minute then tapped them with the handle of a knife and they neatly slipped apart Nothing else had worked - ice/hot water, olive oil, tapping.

We used WD40 by spraying between bowls, set the bottom bowl in hot water and ran a thin blade knife between the bowls and they came apart immediately.

If the hot water trick on the outer bowl doesn't work you could try putting some fine oil between the inner and outer bowl. Allow some time for it to spread over the surfaces, place the outer one back into the hot water, and then wiggle the inner bowl gently until loosened.

I would try filling the smallest (inside) bowl with ice and then set the bowls into a sink of hot water.....the heat will cause outside bowl to expand a little and the ice(cold) the inside bowl to contract. they should come apart easily then. Good luck with this........works with glasses or vases stuck together also.

I agree with Klucretia! I've used this method seveal times when getting pint glasses un-stuck. Put some really warm water in the sinkand set the bottom bowl in the warm water. Next, pour cold water in the top bowl (perhaps with an ice cube in it), and the two bowls should start to separate. The theory behind it is the hot water makes the bottom glass expand and the cold water make the top glass contract, making them easier to separate.

also, you can fill the top one with ice and water and set the lower one in a sink of very warm water.(too hot may cause real cut crystal to crack) they should come right apart with no effort

Have you tried running them under HOT HOT water? (Not boiling) Or placing them in the freezer for just about 10-15 mins?
