Frugal "Malibu Treatment" to Remove Rust and Hard Water Build-up from HairBy Tandy Cottrell Feedback About This Post:RE: Frugal "Malibu Treatment" to Remove Rust and Hard Water Build-up from HairBrunettes, listen up! Do not try the Ion treatment from Sallys. I ended up with orange hair. I followed the treatment exactly as directed. Even though it is October and I now look like an autumn leaf. I still do not recommend it unless you want to go as a pumpkin for Halloween. I can only guess that the lemonade treatment would do the same. My stylist recommended the Malibu treatment, but I was impatient because my hair was driving me crazy. I sure hope I get better results with the Malibu treatment next time! Post by bmeister2 RE: Frugal "Malibu Treatment" to Remove Rust and Hard Water Build-up from HairIn looking at the ingredients on Malibu, they use citric acid and ascorbic acid. I would not leave this on your scalp very long. Sun-in uses citric acid to lighten your hair, so too long and it might bleach and damage your hair. No longer than 15 minutes anyway. Post By Teresa (Guest Post) RE: Frugal "Malibu Treatment" to Remove Rust and Hard Water Build-up from HairDoes it matter what kind of lemonade you use ? I have crystal light but I don't know if the sugar being mixed in already will have an effect on the outcome? I have blonde and brown on the top layers of my hair and brown on the bottom. Would the lemon kool aid remedy be something that I could use to treat the rust build up on my hair? Post By Alicia (Guest Post) RE: Frugal "Malibu Treatment" to Remove Rust and Hard Water Build-up from HairThank you, thank you for the lemonade advice! I was skeptic at first, thought that would be way too easy of a solution so I searched all over the internet and saw the Shimmer Lights shampoo as the number one tip. Well, the first time I used it, it did get some of the rust out. So, I used it for the next 4 days (it is very harsh on your hair!) and my hair actually got oranger! I was sooooo frustrated! I was ready to get all my hair cut off, let my beautician highlight through some of the ugly orange, etc. when I decided to try the lemonade. I bought 10 packs and 5 jugs of water (I still have the rusty water but am getting a birm filter installed today, yay!) I mixed 8 packets of lemonade, 5 tbs. of water and a ton of conditioner and plastered my hair with it - pouring the excess all over my head. I wrapped it and put it in a shower cap for 10 minutes. OH MY GOSH! Not one speck of red or orange!!! Ten years of rust in my hair was gone!!! Prepare yourself if you have a lot of blonde, it was a shocker - I feel like Marilyn Monroe! It does dry your hair, slept with conditioner last night, much better today :-) I have dirty brown hair with blonde highlights. Never, never underestimate the power of lemonade!! Post By Vicki Lynne (Guest Post) RE: Frugal "Malibu Treatment" to Remove Rust and Hard Water Build-up from HairDEFINITELY TRY THIS!!! I am always sceptical about cheap and easy home remedies like this. But I'll tell you what. With 50 cents worth of lemonade my hair looked just as good as the day I got it highlighted. I would recommend this to anyone with rust stained hair. Believe me IT WORKS!!!! If you have long hair i would use 5 to 10 small packets of lemonaide though. Whoever shared this THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! The Malibu Crystal Gel treatment will not color your hair, it removes minerals that have deposited in your hair cuticles causing damage and deposits that block the full effect of expensive colorings and perms. Post By Maude (Guest Post) RE: Frugal "Malibu Treatment" to Remove Rust and Hard Water Build-up from HairIs is harmful to the hair to use the Malibu treatments more than once per month? How often shall it be used? Post By Mel B (Guest Post) RE: Frugal "Malibu Treatment" to Remove Rust and Hard Water Build-up from HairI have used this on brown hair and I never got orange streaks it is for any color hair. They have different products for bleached hair and non pigmented hair. Post By missy (Guest Post) RE: Frugal "Malibu Treatment" to Remove Rust and Hard WaterI was thinking about getting a Malibu treatment but haven't gone yet. I have a couple questions. Can I use the lemonade that comes in a container that already has sugar mixed with it? Is it going to get rid of the orange out of my hair if it has been like that since I bleached it or is it just for hard water? Will it get chlorine out? Post By Melody (Guest Post) RE: Frugal "Malibu Treatment" to Remove Rust and Hard WaterThis site seems to have some pretty good ideas. I will try some of them. For severe red-rust build up in your hair. There is a Malibu Crystal Gel treat specifically for well water. Post By Tami D illinois (Guest Post) RE: Frugal "Malibu Treatment" to Remove Rust and Hard Water Build-up from HairSo, what is the magic potion for dark hair? Actually I have auburn hair, so will any of this make my hair discolored? Post By Angela (Guest Post) RE: Frugal "Malibu Treatment" to Remove Rust and Hard Water Build-up from HairI have extremely hard water and no softener. My hair was so dull and had turned a brown color(it was originally sunbleached blonde). I was getting so frustrated with it that I wanted to cut it off. I mentioned it to a blonde neighbor and she said she gets malibu treatments ever couple of months. After looking it up I found this sight and tried the lemonade packets. I have hair to the middle of my back and I had to use 15 kool-aid size packets with a few tablespoons of water. I let it set with a towel over it for 15 minutes then shampooed like mentioned above. I was so shocked that after only $2 my hair looked wonderful and shiny. Thank you so much. Post By Cindy (Guest Post) RE: Frugal "Malibu Treatment" to Remove Rust and Hard Water Build-up from HairCan I use lemon juice to remove the rust from my hair? Post By Cindy (Guest Post) RE: Frugal "Malibu Treatment" to Remove Rust and Hard Water Build-up from HairThe best treatment is ascorbic acid (Vitamin C powder) 1- 2 tsp-- mixed with unflavored gelatin - then diluted in 2 oz warm water. Cheap, and identical to Malibu. Post By Holly-powells (Guest Post) RE: Frugal "Malibu Treatment" to Remove Rust and Hard Water Build-up from HairCan people with brown hair use this treatment? Post By Tiffany (Guest Post) RE: Frugal "Malibu Treatment" to Remove Rust and Hard Water Build-up from HairThanks so much for the warning. I was thinking of trying this. Guess it would have looked funny on my dark hair. Post by valbush RE: Frugal "Malibu Treatment" to Remove Rust and Hard Water Build-up from HairSomthing else that works and is less stressful on your hair and scalp is diluted vinegar..It may take more effort than the Malibu Treatment, but it is less expensive. Mix vinegar to water 2 to 1...put in a spray bottle...shampoo your hair, then towel dry....spray the vinegar mixture into hair and comb through repeatedly...rinse with warm water. You can do a light shampoo afterwards to kill the vinegar smell....this will dissolve the build up on your hair with no damage to hair or scalp. I used to be a hair stylist and I used this back in the 80's when the hair products were designed to make hair stand straight up, change colors, and less frizzy....what a era! Also available at "Sally's Beauty Supply" is a product called "Shimmer Lights" which is designed to take the discoloration out of naturally blonde or bottle blonde hair. Smoke will cling to light colored hair and turn it brown over a period of time. This takes the discoloration caused by smoking and the over use of hair products off of your hair regardless of the color....works great and is inexpensive also.... Post By Cindy Lou (Guest Post) RE: Frugal "Malibu Treatment" to Remove Rust and Hard WaterBe careful with this if you have dark hair!!! It can change the colour of your hair and you might end up with orange streaks! Post By guest (Guest Post) |
