Treatment depends on what type of skin you have. I have combination skin and think Cetaphil does not work. For face wash, I like Pupose Gentle Cleansing Wash best. It cleanses but does not overly dry your skin. This is good for all types, has no scents/additives. Neaclear is pretty good also. The trick is to not dry out your skin too much but you want to eliminate the pore clogging oil. Some don't like toners but I do.

My preference is Estee Lauder toner. Then (AM), I like to use Estee Lauder idealist or 24.7 TARGETED Wrinkle Treatment or Patricia Wexler Regenerating Serum. These help to even out skin and pores and soften and soothe. MOST IMPORTANT: If you have combo/oily skin, do NOT moisturize unless it's winter and super dry! Just top off with La-Roche Posay sunscreen. Again, do NOT apply any moisturizer if you have combination or oily skin. PM: Use the same cleanser and toner and then rub tea tree oil onto zits.

Additionally, supplements will help. Of course drink plenty of water but also take the following oral supplements: Zinc, Omega 3/6/9/fish oil/Flaxseed. That's two different pills. The one contains each. The zinc can upset your stomach but it's very good for you.

Once you get the initial problem under control, use a gentle scrub a few times per week. My favorite is Shiseido Deep Cleansing Scrub or the regular St. Ives Apricot Scrub. If you do require a moisturizer, I prefer Neutrogena Anti-oxidant age reverse day lotion.

While this routine can set one back a little, it WILL work. Switch product up every now and again as your skin will get used to/immune. If you have Back Acne, try a liquid dish washing detergent. Not kidding. Also, you'll want to use shampoos like head/shoulders and some pomade. don't use hairsprays or you could notice forehead acne. Plain dove or dial bar soap is best also for problematic skin.

While Proactiv did work for me, it stained my towels and sheets. Better options for you.

Metroplex, accutane does NOT cause birth deflects "later on in life." It can cause birth defects if taking it while pregnant. It does NOT interfere with ones ability to have children in the future. I was treated with accutane, and had fantastic results.

I'm 28 years old and still have a minor acne problem. To clear up my skin, I use this amazing face wash called Effaclar (La Roche-Posay) Purifying foaming gel. This product is great! I follow up with Jamieson Vitamin E Balancing moisture lotion for normal and combination skin, and at night a follow the same regime + Differin 0.1% topical cream (prescribed by my dermatologist). Hope this helps! I know exactly how you feel about having an acne problem- good luck! Another tip: if you use foundation makeup, I recommend to use a water based liquid foundation. It will not clog your pores.

I just tried Loreal Skin Genesis Pore Minimizing Gel Cleanser and found good luck with it. I've used half a bottle at this point and wash my face twice a day.

I believe the secret to pimple free skin is exfoliating - the skin must shed the old skin in order for products to penetrate and be able to work.

I have found this trick. I wash my face with the cleaner (twice a day) and pat dry, but skin is still damp. Then I rub the actual cleanser on into my skin and let it dry. I do this morning and night. I put my makeup on over it. When I am using this trick I don't use a moisturizer under my make up because I want to have my skin dry out and peel.

However - once the skin starts to peel and during the exfoliation process - see below - sometimes I do use a moisturizer to help the exfoliating process.

After a few days my skin starts to dry out and the skin begins to flake and peel. I continue applying the cleanser to my freshly washed face during this period twice a day.

Once the flaking/peeling starts, I begin exfoliating. I've used all different kinds of drugstore exfoliators so I can't recommend one a certain one. The important thing is to get the dead skin off once the skin begins to peel.

I find the best results is to exfoliate after I have been in a warm shower for around 15 minutes. I exfoliate after I get out of the shower - skin seems to loosen up. Also the pores open from the steam.

Be gentle, but firm with exfoliating, don't grind it into your skin. Then I use an enzyme mask - I just tried Freeman Facial Enzyme Pineapple Mask. Very inexpensive drugstore type product. freemanbeauty.com

I use a clay mask 1 - 2 times a week. Also clears the pores and helps exfoliate.

Once my skin starts to peel, I see more pimples surface. Not breakouts, but they rise to the surface. I know you're not supposed to do this, but I pop them. But I only pipe them when I can see a head on the pimple. I find that if I try to pop it before this point, it makes the blemish worse.

I continue with the above tricks until I see my pores getting clearer and my skin starts to gain clarity; it starts to look smoother has better texture. But I still rub the soap in my skin to keep up the results.

Once my face starts to peel, I use any kind of serum treatment on my skin. Serums are the purest form of the particular product. I think my dollars gets stretched longer this way.

I use the serum first, wait 5 minutes or so, then rub in the facial cleanser.

If you find your skin is getting too dry, experiment. You may only have to apply the soap once a day. However, I would wash my face with the cleanser twice a day in any case. See what works for you - we're all different. I have medium skin tone with golden undertones, and don't have the thin skin of fair skinned people. I'm not fair skinned and if you are, experiment.

Once your skin gets cleared up, try rubbing in the soap only your your oily areas, see if you have good luck with it - experiment!

I am 52 years old and as you age, your skin doesn't shed the dead skin cells as it did when you're young. However, I recommend skin exfoliation from 12 on. I started even younger than that and I don't think I look my age. I don't look 25 either!!!! Or 35!!! But people put my age at around 40.

Also - Never, ever, ever, under any circumstances go to sleep with your makeup on. This includes eye makeup. My sister didn't follow this advice and looks 10 years older than she is.

Sun block is crucial AT ALL TIMES, especially when using the above skin peeling and exfoliating routine. You're uncovering new, fresh skin and new skin reacts to the sun.

Do yourself a favor and don't ever sunbathe. I did until I was around 25 and I'm paying the price now with dark spots.

Someone recommended birth control pills. That's when my dark spots got worse, especially the 'mask of pregnancy' dark area on my forehead. This area is really stubborn for me to peel and even when I got dermatologist peels, my forehead never peeled at all. Even the doctor was puzzled. The rest of my face peeled, but never my forehead.

I also found that Cetaphil clogged my pores badly. It was recommended to me by my another dermatologist, by the way.

I don't recommend Accutane treatments either. I've heard that it can cause birth defects later on in life (among other side effects). I can't have children due to a hysterectomy, but I still wouldn't use Accutane at this point in my life.

Also - don't touch your face or rest your face on your hands! I know, it's a hard habit to break. My mother practically beat it into me!!

I have tryed SO MANY different cleansers and I have sensitive skin, and nothing is working. I have acne breakouts and some small spots from were I had acne before. I need something that isn't high priced you can get at a local drug store and works great! I am 14 and want to pursue a modeling career but this is holding me back. I use this stuff called squeaky clean face wash I bought off of smokymountainminerals.com and like it a lot. It dried up my acne and I've noticed my face doesn't get as oily as fast. iIve been using it for about a month now and like it a lot.

I wanted to know whether neutrogena oil free face actually worked. I use it twice a day but it makes my nose dry. My face is usually oily but now it has spots of dryness and I have big pimples and marks all over my face. I don't know what to do. I need help. My sister had the same problem and she had to take accutane from a chinese doctor which completely helped her but accutane is a strong drug and I'm too young to use it. I hope I don't turn into her when she reached her teens. It was bad. I need help with my skin!.

I use cetaphil and the acne free terminator 10 by Univerity medical (you can find that at stores like Giant, walmart, etc). 10% Benzoyl Peroxide can work wonders on your skin if you have cystic acne. I wash my face with cetaphil twice a day and then apply that cream to my pimples. Also the Oxy face wash with 10% benzoyl peroxide will also be great for your skin. And lets not forget, Water will help ALOT! Drinking 8 glasses of water of day, will do the trick for almost everything!

I know this sounds stupid but treat spots like your friends-don't pick them. Everyone has spots. Don't touch them, moisturize them, and use cream such as adaphalene differin. Wash your face two times a day, not harshly and scrubbing them like a wild dog, just refresh your face cleansing it with a mild bar. On pimples use tree-tea oil, it's quite effective and dries spots out.

Aloe vera works, if you rub a very small amount on your skin, and use a shampoo specialized shampoo for oily hair.

Avon has a few very good cleansers, not too costly. Plus, plain soap (Ivory) and water is the best thing to wash your face with.

I use Serious Skin Care Daily Ritual cleanser 2x times per day, morning and night . At night, I follow cleansing with Natures Cure 5% benzoyl peroxide cream over all problematic and oily areas and ocasionally moisturize with the Super Hydrate by Serious Skin Care. In the morning after cleansing, I use Seban Solution by Cooperlabs for oil control. I also take the Natures Cure homeopathic tablets twice per day. Amazing results for me.

I used baking soda and neutrogena oil free acne wash (the orange-colored stuff). I'm serious it will dry up those pimples! You can make as much as you want, I usually do equal parts. If you need something for overnight, dab a little of the mixture on before bed. For acne scars use Neosporin at night. Oh and you can get the off brand of neutrogena. I do recommend Arm & Hammer baking soda because it is the strongest and purest of all the others.

Try putting the inside of aloe vera on your facial skin. I've done it and it has improved my acne, but I have stopped because it was a little to sticky for me.

Try medicated Apricot Scrub with salicylic acid. Also try 10% benzoyl peroxide cream over the affected area. I find both these items in my local big-box retailer under the Equate generic name.

Be sure to wash your face morning and evening. Moisturize with a fragrance-free moisturizer only on the dry spots. I recommend daily sunscreen use too. Use an oil-free variety.

I Use Neutragena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub and it works great. I've used Witch Hazel and it also does the job. My daily routine is:
1. WASH FACE
2. PAT DRY
3. PUT WITCH HAZEL ON A CONTTON WOOL-BALL
Try this method for 2 weeks and see if you see a differnce if not then try PHsohex (PHsohex is a anti-bacterial wash which you can use 2-3 time daily, your local chemist should sell it for $6-10 dollars. (AUST)

try using ordinairy tea tree oil on affected areas applied with cotton wool, if ur cheeks and forehead get a bit dry just use a little bit of moisturise, i had the same problem and i have very few zits

Wonderful for all sorts of skin and comes in various formulations.

A large bottle lasts a long time, so don't be scared by the price.

If you leave it on for a few extra mins., you get a free 'peel' because of the glycolic acid.

I second the Cetaphil, and I'd suggest using a clay-type mask a couple times a week to clean out your pores and help dry up the oil. Neutrogena makes one called Deep Clean Invigorating Cleanser/Mask. You can use it as either a cleanser or mask, but I find it a bit drying for every day (makes me itchy). I use it a couple times a week as a mask and I love it.

Toners also help to close pores on a freshly washed face (but so can doing a final rinse with cold water).

Wash with gentle cleanser, tone, treat with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide over entire face (not just spots--and 2.5% is just as effective but gentler than 10%), and moisturize. That's my routine.

Always always ALWAYS use a moisturizer. If your face lacks moisture, it will secrete more oil to compensate. Neutrogena Oil-Free daily moisturizer is great--gentle and not greasy. (SPF 15, too!)

My dermatologist used to have me use Ivory soap, but they changed their formula years ago and he had me switch to Dial. Now I use Neutrogena Deep pore cleanser, (or Dial). I then use Clean and Clear, an astringent that has salacylic acid in it, which helps to prevent future acne. I use the strongest one as my skin is very oily, but they have 2 strengths you can choose from. Good Luck

We all (2 teens & 1 adult) have oily skin and hair, too. We use Neutrogena Deep Cleaning for a face wash (it comes in a pump and a little goes a long way) and generic 10% Benzyl Peroxide (sp?) to dry up individual bumps. We also use Suave Clarifying Shampoo. It cleans the oiliest hair very well and is really cheap.

Maalox and let it dry on your face then rinse off.
It keeps my skin great. I get it cheap buy the generic.

I just use Noxema to wash my face but I use Neutrogena On-The-Spot Acne treatment on my zits. It is not quite $5 a tube and works excellent on my skin (which sounds like yours!) Hope it works for you!!

When my kids were younger they all had acne.
My doctor told them to take Vitamin E, and Zinc tablets.
Check with you doctor or health food store for recommended dosage.
It took about a month to see any difference, but the acne almost disappeared.

I use a generic type of Cetaphil. It's very gentile and great for oily or dry skin. I use witch hazel as a toner and no moisturizer. Seems to have cleared up my skin and tightened my pores. If I feel that I need to exfolliate, I add a little baking soda to the Cetaphil in the palm of my hand and mix it together before I wash my face. It works great. Try my method for a week and see if it works for you. It's cheaper than any skin care regime on the market and pretty natural. Good luck.
