*Super Washing Soda: This is not the same as baking soda. Baking soda SHOULD NOT be used in place of washing soda. Washing soda is harmful if swallowed. It releases no harmful fumes, and is generally safe. Washing Soda can be found on the laundry detergent aisle of your supermarket. It comes in an Arm & Hammer 55-ounce yellow box. If you are having trouble locating this product, you may want to ask your local store manager to order it for you, or you can call 1-800-524-1328. The UPC number is: 33200-03020 or 033200-030201.

Where can I find washing soda,need it for a science fair project.
Editor's Note: You can find it at most grocery stores or at Walmart. Look in the laundry additive section, there will be Borax, Clorox II and other items like that in the same section. Look for Arm & Hammer Washing Soda.

Cleaning With Washing Soda
Washing soda is often confused with baking soda but it's quite different. For starters, you don't bake with it! It's not edible. It is great as a laundry additive, to boost the cleaning of your detergent. You can make an effective scouring powder out of washing soda and baking soda. Mix 1/4 cup washing soda with 1 cup baking soda and use it as you would Comet or Ajax scouring powder. Washing soda can be purchased in the laundry aisle of your local grocery store.

Is the soda carbonate used to raise the pH in swimming pools the same as washing soda? Does it have the same potency as the washing soda that is used for laundry? Thanks for your help.

Washing Soda is sodium carbonate and can be found in the laundry section of the grocery store. Washing soda cuts grease and removes stains, disinfects, and softens water. If you can't find washing soda you can substitute baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) but they are different. Arm and Hammer sells both Washing and Baking Soda. (Never use washing soda for baking!)
