Link: Energy Saving Bulbs and Lupus Patients

I felt this information is very important to pass along. With everyone switching to more efficiency types of light bulbs, this is one reason not to buy some.

Very interesting to me, as I suspect my daughter has a form of "photosensitive" epilepsy. Jury's not out yet on exact seizure diagnosis, and she is responding well to meds, but I have been rather uncomfortable in transitioning our household to these modern florescent marvels....would like to know more above "quick fixes" like covering fixtures with lampshades to protect against meanwhile. My understanding is that lighting (the "old" incandescent type) is being rapidly phased out, and it worries me that it may create an ecsascerbated health problem and we may wind up with no alternative.

And how many people know you are not supposed to put those light bulbs in the trash? They have mercury in them and should be brought to a place that accepts them for recycling.

It's amazing that a small change to save money could cause a problem, and the article proposes a warning on the box, and offers an"easy fix" for folks using the bulbs.

"The Lupus Foundation has recently started lobbying Congress to require warning labels on the energy saving light bulbs. In the meantime, doctors say an easy fix would be to use a light fixture cover or a lampshade." - cut and pasted from the article.
