Rotten Meat Smell in a Room

My husband went outside to our big freezer the other day. It is in a room of the house that is not accessible from inside (thank goodness). He opened the door and was assaulted by the smell of rotten meat. The freezer had probably been standing open a week. We were able to get the smell out of the freezer with baking soda, newspaper and charcoal. How do we get the smell out of a small cinderblock room? It is AWFUL! I can smell it before I open the door and I have a cold! I have the door open attempting to air it out, but any suggestions would be great.

I am renting a house. The previous renters left rotten food and meat on the garage floor, dumped the fridge on the floor. The smell is horrid. I have tried vinegar, 2 gallons, and all kinds of ordor removers. It seems to smell the worst in the drain and under the wooden slats in the driveway. help!!!

Try throwing some fresh coffee grounds all around the room. For some reason, the coffee grounds eliminate the most potent odors. One time, a mouse died behind one of our walls near a vent. We could not get to the mouse but we did read once that throwing coffee grounds would take the terrible odor away. I'm happy to say that it worked very well!

It has to be fresh coffee grounds. Use very liberally.

What about painting the cinderblock (and even the floor if it is cement) with Kilz? It's supposed to take care of everything! Good luck! Keeping open vinegar containers seems like a good idea too.

RE: Rotten Meat Smell in a Room

Been there in Missouri felt or smelled like misery!!! I emptied it out, and used wet vac to get the liquid out of freezer and then dumped 1 quart of bleach and water in freezer let sit while you clean out your
wet vac, again using bleach water and lots of water to flush out...I know it was horrible; then I wet vac-ed the bleach water out of freezer and rinsed well and poured water til it was clean. Then I added 1 gallon white vinegar and 2 boxes baking soda and left it open and let it sit overnight and then next day wet-vac and it really worked. Lots of work but I was going to die with smell its all gone...oh after it was clean empty and dry let it air out open.

Of course have it unplugged while cleaning..
good luck.

RE: Rotten Meat Smell in a Room

Use a mixture of household bleach and water...I cup to 1 gallon of bleach...no need to rinse.
Spray or scrub down the wall and anything else with this.
