Fixing Washing Machine Leaks

We replaced the tub seal on the washing machine because it was torn up. After putting it back together we tested the low-water level cycle. It still leaks, but not from tub seal. We're very sure of this. The water comes from the brake/clutch assembly. We then noticed 2 small holes in the center (tubular part) of the inner tub but don't see how that could cause water to get down below. Is that possible?

Another thought is the center post seals, but we want to eliminate the first possibility so that's why we're asking. We also noticed the spanner nut is corroded along the bottom and has lost about 1/4 inch in some places, so we are replacing it. Would that have caused a leak too? We don't know if going after the center post seals would be a hard job or not, but we have the machine torn apart anyway.
