Recommendations for Removing Odors

Removing odors from your home without spending a fortune! This has worked for us! Pet odors, smoke odors or anything! It is called Odo-Ban! This is the bomb! You can get it at SAMS club. They guarantee it! We thought we would have to throw out carpeting and bedding, but found this an it works! All you do is use it as a rinse after you have steam cleaned something or use it instead of downy in the rinse cycle of your washer. This stuff works for everything!

RE: Recommendations for Removing Odors

My husband and I just purchased a home where three chain smokers lived. We have been busy trying all kinds of cleaners. Rather than the walls having paint, they have only primer. That's a bad thing because it is so absorbent. We found that using even "odorless" TSP only soaked into the walls and made us sick from the faint smell (we had the windows and doors open), We also tried washing the walls and ceilings with a water/vinegar solution. This made the house really reak! even after the walls dried. Having said that, the vinegar did clean off the nicotine somewhat, but since it absorbed so quickly into the primed walls, we had to work quickly to wipe the walls with paper towels.

The only thing that cleared the smoke smell was using Kilz Odorless Primer. You still need to have ventilation when using this primer. It does have a smell, especially while it is drying. We were told at the paint store to prime the walls twice. This worked. For the rooms that were painted with gloss paint, the kitchen and the bathrooms, we found that Awesome liquid cleaner mixed with water did wonders. Awesome is found at the Dollar Tree Store and also online. We also discovered that Awesome Powdered Oxygen Cleaner is also fabulous and it deodorizes! You have to rinse your walls and ceilings after using these products, though. We used the Awesome Liquid cleaner to clean the kitchen and bathroom cabinets. You can't beat the price of Awesome cleaners...they are only $1!

I will add that we wasted a lot of money buying things like Big D Fire Foggers and Ozium spray. All they did was make us sick from the smell and the cigarette odor returned days later. We tried using these products repeatedly, but had no luck.

As for cleaning the carpets, we shampooed the carpets 5 times! with OxyClean. That worked. You might not have to clean your carpets that many times. Ours were filthy apparently!

After steam cleaning it thoroughly the used couch I bought still stunk. For a week I then sprayed Fabreze, using up the entire bottle, but always the stink returned.

I use Odo-Ban at the nursing home where I work and I put it in a spray bottle (diluted) and spritz it in the air and everywhere. It is wonderful and smells great too. It works well around toilets in the bathroom and the shower stalls also, just spray it on and let dry.

Removing Smoke Odor

I swear by Fabreze, I like Deep Clean. Just spray and it works! My mother in law comes to visit and her clothes stink of cigarette smoke! It very hard to get the smell out, of clothes and the bedroom, but Fabreze works! Also, for the air is Febreze Air Effects, I love meadows and rain, just spray in the air and smoke smell is gone! Good luck!
