Dog is Losing Hair

My 15 yr old mixed breed is on a low protein diet for CRF (chronic renal failure). He has started to lose large clumps of fur. What could he be missing in this diet that would cause this?

RE: Dog is Losing Hair

Hill's Homemade Restricted Protein Diet 4 dogs:

1/2 lb. ground beef [NOT lean round chuck!]
2 cups cooked white rice WITHOUT salt
1 hard cooked egg finely chopped
3 slices white bread, crumbled
1 Tums crushed finely
Cook beef in skillet, stirring til lightly browned. Stir in remaining ingredients and mix well. Mixture is somewhat dry and its palatability can be improved by adding a little water [NOT MILK]. Keep covered in refrigerator. Yields 1&frac; lbs.
Is cheaper than buying the Hill's diet food and YOU know just what is in it! Helped my dogs in the past to be more comfortable.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. Perhaps the hair loss is a result of his poor health. I know our dogs lost a lot of hair as they aged and became ill with various conditions. best wishes

RE: Dog is Losing Hair

Low protein may account for his hair loss. I would ask your vet if there is anything he can take that would help.
