Craft Project: Recycled Bottheads
Recycling pop or water bottles into funny faces. The creations can then be used as decor or piggy banks. Making a family of Bottheads is great fun for the kids.

Approximate Time: 1 hour

Supplies:

  • plastic bottle, either large or small
  • wool, for hair and mustache
  • googlie eyes or buttons for eyes
  • foam shapes for mouth
  • pompom or button for nose
  • black Sharpie marker
  • white glue
  • scissors

Instructions:

Take label off bottle. Glue on googlie eyes or buttons for eyes. Draw eyebrows and eyelashes and expression marks around eyes. Cut and glue Fun Foam to create mouth (dollar store). Glue pompom or button for nose.

If making mustache with wool and glue under nose. Spread glue so that some of the strand are glued also. This makes it easier to shape mustache. Mustache is optional.

Take about 20 or more strands of wool about 2 1/2 times the height of the bottle. Divide in half and twist tie the middle and stuff into the top of the bottle (hole). Cut bangs into hair do. Do not cut too short until you are sure the length is right. Best to do this little at a time until you are happy with the look and hairdo.

Optional: you can add beads, bows, elastics etc. if you wish.

If you want a frizzy look then use a toothpick to separate some of the strands of wool and that will make the look fuller or frizzy. Enjoy!

Tips:

Lay bottle down when working as until glue dries. There will be many times where you will have to reset the glued items as they will slip. Another option is a styro cup for hat or snow cone paper cup for hat. You could also use fabric swatches to create the illusion of full clothes, etc.
