You can also clean them with vaseline. I use either cotton balls or tissue to rub vaseline in , with circular motions. Then let set for about an hour, then rub, and buff with a soft cloth. Never clean with harsh chemicals on this sort of shoes.

`I remember when I was a little girl, my mother used to use vaseline on my patent leather maryjanes...I'm not sure if this will work in your situation, but it's worth a try!!

Years ago we used to use Vaseline...the solid kind in a jar....not the lotion....Sue
