Algae in Clothes Iron

I have algae that has appeared in the water tank of my iron. How do I remove the algae with a natural product so that it doesn't affect my iron or stain my clothes?

To keep it from happening in the future, always empty the water tank out when you are finished ironing. I know, It's a pain. So I just use a spray bottle.

I would try plain old white vinegar, mixed with equal parts of water.

RE: Algae in Clothes Iron

Try white vinegar and water. Pour mixture in and dump several times, then let it heat and steam.
