I've been in the glass restoration business for over 15 years and we are also a distributor for SRP Scratch Removal Systems.
Our system is for excess scratches that are very deep. As far as using tooth paste, I doubt that would even start to remove scratches in glass, but if your going to try, start with ULTRA BRIGHT. It's the most aggressive with your teeth.

You can buy a product at the auto parts store that is used to fill chips in windshields...that would work well on your table. I can't remember the name, but if you describe it, they will know exactly what you want!
