RE: Be Aware of Driving Laws in Different States
In most places I'm aware of, you need to stop for a school bus that is flashing lights and stopped road regardless of your driving direction, unless it's a divided highway. Not a line in the middle but a median strip, a barrier, a true divided highway. ... View related article.

RE: Tie Plastic Refuse in Knots
We can recycle them here at the groceries. I stuff many bags into one bag and then tie it off.

A problem also exists with those nasty "six-pack" plastic things that keep six-packs of soda or other bottles or cans together (sometimes in fours or eights). I always cut them so that there are no circles of any kind left to ensnare wildlife of any size. ... View related article.

RE: Keeping Feather Mattress on the Bed
My Dad lives with me and this perplexing problem. I ended up using a strip of vented style shelf liner (not shelf paper) between his mattress and box-spring. I think they also use it in RV's to prevent dishes and such from rattling as you go down the road, you put a piece between the stacked dishes. ... View related article.

RE: Magic Eraser to Remove Paint Marks on a Truck
I've also had good luck with paint cleaner - the newer kind for clearcoat paint on autos.

RE: '07 Chevy Malibu Doesn't Have a Block Heater
Wow, I don't want to get into the Maine vs. Alberta thing, they BOTH have coooolllddd winters ('cept the coast of Maine a little less).
If I were in either I would have some warming method for my car. Block heater a plus since you may find outlets available even if you aren't home. Pre-heating saves wear and tear on both your car AND you!

RE: Puppy Will Only Pee on Newspaper
Don't take the paper outside, take the dog!
Take the dog at those times that are classic, upon waking, after eating etc. Other times, you've got to watch his body language and when it shows he's going to "go", leap up, say OUTSIDE! and take him outside and STAY OUT THERE UNTIL HE GOES! AND THEN Praise him lots!

Take him for long walks and then praise him lots when he goes. Use the same wording/tone. Whenever my dog "goes" outside I say "Good Girl, Go Potty!" and she's 11 years old. Yes, I've done this since I got her and for some time now I can say "go potty" when we're out for a potty break and she will do so on command. And, yes, I say "Go Poop!" also when we're out after meals or if we're on a walk and she poops. Lots of praise! Dosen't matter what words you use but be consistent.

HAVE patience! You trained your son. Remember the patience? The dog will actually get "it" a lot quicker that he did.

RE: Cleaning Food Off of a Grill Grate
Several have said using a wire brush. Not a good idea if it's a porcelain coated grate. Of course if you've already done it in the past, no need to worry about scratching the finish now....
Use the high flame setting & the cover down to burn it off OR I'll trade some chemical use for the extra propane you need to do that.
I use easyoff, but not very much at all, and a garbage bag so the grate can be sprayed and then laid flat for a few hours to let the cleaner work. I usually set it in a sunny are too! Then I rinse and wash with dish soap several times.

RE: Car Bangs When Shifting Into Overdrive
My simple bet is the solenoid that does this "shifting" in the transmission is on it's way to failure. I'm thinking it isn't overdrive but the mechanical "lock-up" that occurs in these transmissions as a fuel savings effort.

It means a trip to the shop - and if you haven't had the transmission serviced it's way overdue anyway. I've used Cottman several times. If my bet is wrong, it's something more serious and means a shop trip anyway. ... View related article.

RE: Making Sure the Scanned Price is Right
ALERT - I have found at my grocery (Giant Foods) speaking up at the register only gets the price researched and corrected. To enjoy the "offers" of first one free or refund of double difference in price, you MUST allow the error to happen and THEN go to the service desk and complain. It won't happen at the register. "Customer Service"?? ... View related article.

RE: Teaching Road Awareness to a Dog
Training is a key but almost as important is excercise. The Springer portion NEEDS it (the other collie part too!). With sufficient excercise daily, not only will the "run" tendency be reduced but he will be generally calmer and easier to train. ... View related article.
