RE: Organize Your Day
I'm a bit of a night owl and tend to be brain dead first thing in the morning. Planning my day the night before is much easier for me - I get up with a list ready to follow - very motivating. The alternative is to get up with a vague idea of what I need to do and then procrastinate for a couple of hours until I wake up properly!

RE: An Introduction to Container Gardening
Legionaires(sp?) disease microorganisms have been found in potting mix - which if inhaled can lead to a serious atypical pneumonia. That's why a facemask is advised when using potting mix. The risk is small but better safe than sorry!

RE: Moldy Leather Luggage
I would clean it like a leather saddle - a damp cloth and saddle soap to remove the grime and mould then a good quality leather cream or oil to seal and nourish the hide and keep it supple. Any animal feed store will have these items or the US substitutes. Bleach may alter the colour in patches - I wouldn't use it - and fungicide is not necessary. When cleaned, store your bags in a bag with a dampness absorbent product or increase the ventilation in their storage area.

RE: How to the Calcium Deposits Around Toilet
Use 'wet and dry' sandpaper - the fine black one from DIY/builders stores. Start with 600 grit - if that is too slow move to 400 grit, and so on. It doesn't harm the procelain and removes even dirty rust type stains. I used it in a toilet in a new house I bought and it restored it to new. It takes a bit of elbow grease but is cheap and you don't have to inhale chemicals and flush them into your sewage/septic system. The sandpaper can be kept in the bathroom and used over and over again if you get any more build up. It is not necessary to empty out the water if you don't want to - just use a rubber glove kept specifically for the purpose.

RE: Basset Hound With a Rash on Belly
Just a thought that may be helpful - could it be a plant allergy? Basset hounds are not very high off the ground and maybe she is walking through long grass and weeds. In Australia we have a weed called Salvation Jane or Patterson's Curse. It is known to give dogs a rash and they can lose the hair on their muzzles temporarily when its in flower from sniffing through the long grass. It also gives me a rash on my arms when weeding. Perhaps try keeping her indoors for a while with toilet outings on a lead so you can keep her away from long grass.
A short term measure for the discomfort, to take the 'fire' out of the rash, would be 1% hydrocortisone cream, (a light smear 3 times a day for a couple of days), which I use on myself. Not for long term use though.

Great article - you can only pour so many chemicals onto the earth before it becomes poisoned and degraded. Ellen shows how to work with nature not against it.

RE: Uses for Old Silverware
Use a vice to bend the handles into a C shape leaving the ends straight, drill holes with a fine drill bit into the straight ends and attach to a drawer front for interesting fun kitchen drawer pulls.

RE: Ogranizing Medication
This is not good practice. If the drugs are ceased or changed you will have to find a container to take them to the pharmacy for disposal. Also, and more importantly, the bottle has the expiry date for the drugs - you could end up taking less than effective drugs if you use them after their expiry date. There may be other information on the bottle that a health care professional would need in case of a side effect or allergic reaction.
You can buy lidded boxes divided into areas for day/time which can be for 24 hours or a week. It is not advisable to 'decant' medication for longer periods than this and some medications need to be kept in their foil wrapper until used or have a dessicant to stop them absorbing moisture.
You can get your medications supplied in pop out packs made up by your pharmacist - with a section for each day/time. There is a small charge for this service.
If you need advice on storage or dispensing you medication a pharmacist is the best person to ask for advice.
