| RE: Add Safety Glow Tape to Your Lampshade |
Melanie, this is a great hint. I did not know that this stuff even existed and I am going to get some next time I go shopping. Thanks so much for sharing about it. You should get the best hint for this one!

| RE: Adjusting Timing on Sewing Machine |
Timing on a sewing machine is something you cannot do at home. For a stopgap until you can afford to take it to the shop, drop the needle a bit in the needle clamp and hand walk the machine for a few stitches to see if it clears the bobbin area and makes a stitch. Is this clear? Just drop it a fraction. So in essence you are regulating the timing with the needle position. This is only a temporary fix and may not work, but it's worth a try. I was given a Singer over a weekend when the shop was closed, the timing was off and I clamped the needle a little lower than normal and it sewed fine.

I love this recipe. In fact, I love all the recipes in this booklet called The Quaker Oats Wholegrain Cookbook. And you are correct, it was a freebie sometime in 1982. There was another one put out about the same time called Stretching Food Dollars with Quaker Oats. Both of them were free and are excellent and I use them constantly. Susan in Omaha ... | RE: Kale Soup Recipe |
Last week I made the best soup ever using kale, water, turkey, and chicken bouillon cubes. The only thing I measured was the water, 6 cups, and the cubes, 7. I measured neither the kale or the turkey. Simmered it for awhile. I used Redbor kale and just chopped it up raw. The turkey was scavenged off a carcass. It was one of the best soups I've ever eaten and I had my doubts about it before I made it. I served it with cornbread. Yummy!

| RE: Fixing the Taste of Vegetable Soup |
|
Never, ever, ever put cabbage and cauliflower in vegetable soup. They are very aromatic with plenty of sulforaphanes that will make the whole pot smell and taste horrible. Cook these cruciferous vegetable by themselves. There is not a fix for this pot of soup, sadly. Susan in Omaha ... View related article. |

| RE: Discouraging Door to Door Solicitors |
Boy, you guys are pros at this! I wished I had asked on TF before I spent the time and energy painting my little ineffectual and ignored sign. And thanks for the many laughs. Seems like I'm not the only one affected by this. Best to all.

Thanks to everyone for suggestions. Kaelle, that sign is wonderful and I printed it out and am going to decoupage it over the sign I painted. If that doesn't stop it I don't know what will. I was polite in the beginning, but I can't imagine what people are thinking when they see the sign and knock anyway. I even had a guy get down on his hands and knees and reach into my front door and spray some cleaner on my tile and rub it around with a rag after I had told him I wasn't interested and pointed to the sign. Just the craziest most unbelievable stuff!

Did you drain the gas out of the engine before you started monkeying with the blade? If not, you probably got gas in the oil or oil in the gas and it won't burn. Drain gas and oil out, refill and start over. And next time siphon the gas out of the engine before you turn it over on its side to mess with the blade.
