Profile For solus - Self

A little old lady with a textured past and vibrating lifestyle.

Many blocks, in many avenues have granted me wisdom and knowledge and skills.

That is not to say that I always live up to my own mandate.  As long as I try my best I know I am doing my best.

I am comfortable with my failures and have and do have many.

So is Life balanced.

RE: Looking for a Good Non-Stick Skillet
I swear by a 12" antique cast iron pan that I found at a demolition outlet. It is first seasoned with coconut oil and cleaned with salt after use. Another light coating of the coconut oil and it hangs for the next use. My bigger pan is over thirty years old now. Once you know your skillet it is a friend for life. ... View related article.

RE: Refinishing a Bird Cage
Only a powder coat surface would be safe. ( and not worth the cost on an old cage) We built a wooden cage from pine strapping and dowels. When one is chewed through it is easy to pop a new one into the pre drilled holes.
If you value your bird's life it should not be in contact with any toxic metals.
Perhaps try your local FreeCycle group for another.
Good luck. ... View related article.

RE: Repairing Spring Hook on Couch
If you take the original hook to a machine shop they should be able to make a new one for a modest sum. Try a smaller business first. I have had several small plastic hooks made in metal for the closet organizer when the plastic ones gave out. ... View related article.

RE: Communicating with Pets
I find that this head shake is used by both my dogs and the parrot when I direct questions towards them. To my mind it means a big YES. Then again, they are usually up to anything I suggest.

We have to mind their posturing and use it back at them. It can get crowded with two German Shepherds that block and herd you around the house, preferably to stay in the kitchen. ... View related article.

RE: Great Dane with Skin Rashes
A better alternative to yoghurt is kefir. It is made at home from 'grains' or starter kits, my dogs lap it up. They are both prone to yeast and itchinesss. It is probiotics, extremely healthy for them and you. A health food store may carry both or the grains may need to be ordered online. ... View related article.

RE: Gift Ideas for an "Army" Guy
Is there a Princess Auto there or some other 'man type' shop such as Canadian Tire? A gift certificate for a man's 'candy store could solve the problem. I now have a tradition of getting DH a Princess Auto gift card for Christmas now. He says the tool department is always crowded after the holiday. It could say "Wish I Knew You Better." ...
