My husband Ken & I live on an acreage, not far from town. We have a lovely view of the ocean, always a changing picture. I love gardening, but am changing the beds to mostly evergreen flowering shrubs for an all-year color & interest. Our soil is really hard to dig & I have lots of arthritus now, so I can't do that much heavy work. We do all our own work, from renovating the house to building new garages, etc. Our yard is alive with lots of birds & we enjoy them so much! We have 2 ponies & 2 little pups now, so our days are busy. For fun, I play bridge & Ken curls. I really enjoy the ThriftyFun site, wonderfull to read, new recipes to try out & make use of the handy hints. Betty Reese
Thank you all for your lovely responses! Muffin is pretty small, about 11 pounds, & will probably not grow much more. She is a real little minx, teases Sparky until he plays with her. Other times she just wants outside to check stuff out. We live on an acreage so she has lots of land to explore! She is a real little guard dog! Here is a picture of Sparky. He's a Miniature American Eskimo. Thanks again & a Merry Christmas to all! ... View related article.
I have a question for you, how do you get your Pink Solution to dissolve in the water? I have it & tried some but was concerned about putting it in the microwave for very long or on the stove top. I just used hot water but it didn't dissolve that good. As for washing clothes reusing the water, that's how I grew up. We only had a wringer washing machine & you only had one wash water & one rinse water. Start with the cleanest clothes & work down to the dirtiest or darkest. The water was hauled in by the bucket & out by the bucket, never wasted! The clothes were hung on a line outside, even in winter. Amazing how freezing can dry!! I still line dry, saves power, & smells so nice. My hubby doesn't like stiff towels, so I do have to use some softener at times. ... View related article.

My heart goes out to you! I too, had to part with my 16 yr. old Bandit. I didn't think I'd be able to get another dog, but now, 2 yrs later, I have 2 pups & they give me so much unconditional love. It is hard to forget a loved one. Faith will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge. Maybe she's playing with Bandit! ... View related article.
We have lots of hummingbirds. I start off the season with a 1 sugar to 4 water, boiled a few minutes to make sure the sugar has changed. Never use honey! Later on, I go to a 1 to 5 ratio as it closest to nature's syrup in flowers. Aren't they amazing little birds! Just love them! ... View related article.
