| RE: Getting Urine Stains Out of White Fur |
|
Hi, After your dog has been groomed and the stains are gone, make it a habit to wipe her bottom with a baby wipe after she comes in from outdoors. (We wipe our dogs' feet too. They spend time on the furniture and the bed with us). Nancy in NC ... View related article. |

| RE: Sadie (Terrier Mix) |

I have 2 litter mate sisters (terrier mixes = part Maltese or Bichon?) who were rescues. They are quite like Sadie, just more white, same expression on their faces and same sweet personalities! Thanks for sharing with us. Nancy in NC ... View related article. |

| RE: 5th Grade Assignment: Build Simple Machine |
I have a little 'machine' that I made. It is a paper clip bent into a crank handle, with the narrow end spread open a little to fit into the hole of a music cassette. It is used to rewind the cassette when the player isn't available.
You could help your 5th grader to build a yarn winder, using the same sort of crank-handle theory.
Good luck, lease let us know what works! Nancy in NC ... View related article. |

| RE: Retro Decor Ideas |
Hi - you could check your library for home decorating books, or (even better) look in a second-hand bookstore for the 'Better Homes & Gardens' type home decorating manuals from that era. Or check Amazon or another used-book vendor. Sounds like a cool decorating project! Maybe you'd post pictures on our site when you're done? Nancy in NC ... View related article. |

| RE: Cleaning a Narrow Necked Glass Decanter |
Definitely try denture tablets - I just cleaned my stainless steel coffeemaker carafe (which I thought had a black lining!) using 3 denture tablets. I was amazed at the crud that came out and that the insides were shiny and silvery! Also the Dollar Tree stores sell bottle brushes in the baby section, only a dollar! Good luck, Nancy in NC ... | RE: Feeding Hummingbirds |
Hi, the hummingbird sites online suggest waiting for 2 weeks after your last sighting of hummies; that way, you don't risk leaving them with no food. Good luck! Nancy in NC
PS -- in case you don't know, make your own nectar (don't use the store-bought nectar because it contains dye that can cause fungus in the hummies' tongues that interferes with their feeding.) The proportion is one part sugar to four parts water; heat half the amount of the water in your microwave, mix in the sugar until it is completely dissolved, then add the other half of the water (so it's not too hot). Allow it to cool to room temperature before filling the feeders. Keep the remainder of the nectar in a clean sealed jar in your refrigerator. Replace in the feeder at least every week after scrubbing out the feeder -- DON'T USE soap or detergent and be sure to rinse completely. Enjoy! ... View related article. |

| RE: Sort Recycling Directly Into Containers |
May I suggest you check to see if you can deposit them in the plastic bags, because in our county, you cannot. You can still use the bags to take them to the recycling center; just empty the bags into the big bins. Nancy in NC ... View related article. |

| RE: Scruffy (Miniature Schnauzer) |
|
I share your heartache. It would kill me if one of my dogs went missing. I suggest checking www.petfinder.com and looking under 'miniature schnauzer', or just under small dogs. He might have gotten lost again. A woman in our county got her missing dog back this way. Good luck! Nancy in NK ... View related article. |

| RE: Hysterectomy Advice |
Hi, Wacky, I'm a nurse, and I have had a hyst (vaginally). I have 2 tips for you. The first is that I did well afterward because I made sure to really rest for the full 8 weeks. This is vital; otherwise, it'll take up to a year for you to feel like yourself again. The uterus is very vascular (has a good supply of blood) so removing it takes that blood away from your body, and as a result you will be tired.
The second tip is that if your surgery is laparascopic, where the surgeon gently inflates your abdomen with carbon dioxide gas to aid in visualizing the surgical site, be SURE that, no matter how good you feel on the first and second day after surgery, you follow the surgeon's aftercare instructions about lying flat or nearly flat afterward.
I had my ovaries removed laparoscopically in an outpatient surgical center, and I felt SO good the next day that I sat at my computer for hours. That night, because the CO2 gas had risen up in my abdomen to press against my diaphragm, I had really hard pain that nothing except the passage of time could help.
I'm always nervous, too, before procedures, but this is the way I am. Try to calm your mind in whatever way works best for you, and remember how experienced your OR staff is! Let us know how you are afterward - and good luck! Nancy in NC ... View related article. |

| RE: Lick Your Fingers to Open Plastic Bags |
Hi, If you can't safely wet your fingers, try breathing on the edge of the bag (like you would to fog your glasses before wiping them off). Immediately put your thumb tip and index fingertip on opposite sides of the breathed-on spot and rub the bag between them to open the edges. Nancy from NC ... View related article. |
