| RE: Placemats for a Lap Robe |
I am going through some of my old posts.Your old posts can be found by clicking on the "Bookmarks" button at the top. They are in alphabetical order.
I find really nice placemats at dollar trees for $1. I'm not sure right now how many would be needed to make the right size for a wheelchair person. It seems to me that maybe 6 would be a nice size but I really do not know! If someone has that figured out could you please & especially a pic if you can!
It's the season now to be getting these lap robes out for use again here & I don't think that $6 is a bad price to make these - but end of season sales or clearance sales would cut the cost too!
If you could also get matching potholders a glasses case could be made to match by stitching the potholder closed, folded in 1/2. This is also a scissors holder Stitched closed diagonally! With another 2 place mats (or 1 & coordinating fabric) to match & sewing machine - sew in divider pockets to make a wheelchair caddy with bias tape or ribbons (or other) in the top corners to hang it on the chair!
Roll a place mat either direction to form a tube & stich closed with a bottom & attach fasteners & a strap! voila! Quick easy tote! Or 2 to make a book bag! A lot more accessories could be made with quilted or other place mats fairly inexpensively ! Especially if you watch the sales or end of season closeouts!
There was another post I read (forgot where) that mentioned using the place mats to make a nice little rug to match your decor! I thought that was a really cool idea !
Place mats & potholders are more useful than just for use on the dining table! They are a wonderful addition to the craft supply stash! I would love to see more posts using those 2 items! ... View related article. |
