Profile For bjptl - Gama Dudy
Seem like a funny name? Let me tell you how I got it ! When we went to visit our son and family, my grandson was 3 years old and couldn't pronounce my name, hense Gama Dudy. LOL !!.  he is 8 now and can pronounce  Grama Judy quite well. That is what I chose for all 8 of my grandkids to call me. I have 8 rangeing from 20 to 8 yrs. old. I love being a grandma. By the way I called Nathaniel ' The Tornado" and still do. He is a real bundle of energy.    Other things I love are; sewing, crafting, making patchwork purses as well as other styles, ribbon embroidery ,beading and scrapbooking. The last two I'm fairly new at. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.----I love to cook and bake as well. ( home style cooking, not Gormet')----My father was very frugal,so I come by it naturally. That is why I am so interested in this site. I am organized too, but not as much as before I got so much arthritis. I really hate not having a nice, clean and organized home, but consessions have to be made for the sake of health. YUCK!! LOL.

RE: Making Yarn Necklaces
I don't know if this is what you are looking for,but I will give you the directions just in case. You will need a large bead with a pretty good sized hole in it, and optional other beads to attach to the bottoms of both sides.Get yourself 5 or 6 varieties of those hairy yarns, ribbon, and those trims that look like they have tiny flags of different colors.

You can use most anything as long as it's not thick or heavy. Cut lengths of each yarn to about 45 inches, then lay them out on a table. Now string them onto the bead.(one layer goes into the right side of the bead and the other layer goes into the left side of the bead)arrange to your liking leaving yarn hanging down from the bead about 6 inches. at this point you can add beads to some of the strands.

I used some pony beads and other beads I had with just a little larger holes. I hope you like it as much as I do. Judy in Alabama ... View related article.

RE: Making Tote Bag Handles
If you want a more sturdy handle with a little cushioning, here is the way I make handles for my nicer tote bags and for purses: Cut your fabric strips 4 inches by the length you want for a narrow handle(1 inch.)For a wider handle cut it 6 inches by the length you wish( 1 1/2 inches)Next you will need iron-on fusible fleece. This is not very thick but is dense. cut two strips for each handle a little shy of 7/8"wide for the narrow handle and 1 3/8 wide for the wide handle. Follow manufacturers directions and fuse a strip to wrong side of fabric on each outer side of your fabric strip.Next fold both sides to the center and press, fold in half and press. Edge stitch down both sides. I hope this helps.I also make the standard handles like the previous ladies described. Judy from Alabama ... View related article.

RE: Ideas for Crafts Kits
This may not be too profound, but I thought it clever. Why not call it "Finish This", or Finish This by Sandi? Good luck! It sounds like fun. Judy in Alabama ... View related article.

RE: Making Adjustable Yarn Necklaces
Here is how I made my "yarn"necklace: I used a large wooden bead(1/2 - 3/4 inches in diameter). with a fairly large hole. I then laid out 46"lengths of various fancy yarns and a light weight varagated ribbon.(these weren't actually yarns. They were those speciality yarns, and trims. One is called "Fun Fur"eyelash yarn.)I used 5 strands. It will depend on how large the hole is in your bead .I think I used a large holed needle and strung the ends in opposite directions through the bead. That way you can pull the two sides to adjust the length you want your neclace to be.I also added other types of beads at the bottom of some of the strands. I get lots of compliments when I wear it.I used a variety of colors instead of just one.....I hope this helps you out. Judy in Alabama ... View related article.

RE: Theme Ideas For Church "Trunk or Treat"
Since it's being held at your church I'm assuming you don't want scary things like witches or vampires and the like. Our church has done this for several years, but they left the theme for the trunk decorations up to the individuals. Were you wanting an idea for your trunk or the whole event?

How about SCARECROWS? There are all sorts of ways to make a scarecrow and/or scarecrow costumes. We usually have a Fall theme for the event. That gives everyone a little more variety as far as costumes are concerned. We did the scarecrow thing once. I painted a large clay pot to look like a peice of candy corn with a silly face on it.We used it for the treats. We had a scarecrow sitting on the edge of the tailgate of our van.We had draped a dark blue fabric behind the back seat and make it look like the night sky (stars and moon attached). Then we put a bail of hay in the trunk and some pumpkins. It turned out really cute.

Another time we used a winter theme with stuffed snowmen and a small sled.We used that white sparkling cloth that they sell for under the Christmas tree to make it look like snow. Another person used a 1960's theme with all the wild colors and fabrics. You could be a "Flower Child". Those are just a few ideas. If you want more just contact me and I will be happy to give you some. Judy in Alabama ... View related article.

Mary, Here is my recipe for Apple Pie.(I use Granny Smith apples)--8 cups pared, cored and thinly sliced apples---1/3 cup packed brown sugar--1/3 cup granulated sugar--1 Tbs. cornstarch(or 2 Tbs flour)--1 tsp, cinnamon--1/4 tsp. nutmeg and 1/4 tsp salt. Mix together well and set aside for about 10 minutes. --Line 9 inch pie pan with bottom crust--add apples--place several pats of butter over apples---Put top crust on pie--seal edges. Bake in 425 degree oven(preheated) for 40 to 50 minutes. Apples should be tender when you pierce them with a fork. I hope this works for you. Judy in Alabama ... View related article.

RE: Recipe For Straw Jello
Donita, I have a recipe for a strawberry Pretzel Salad. I wonder if that is what you are looking for. Pretzels kind of remind me of straw. Any way, I will give it to you and you can try it or not.

2 cups crushed pretzels
1 stick butter, melted
3 Tbsp. sugar.

Mix together well and press into a buttered 9"x13" dish. Bake in 350 degree oven for 10 minutes. Cool.

Mix together 1 (8oz.) pkg of cream cheese, softened with 1 cup sugar. Add 8 oz container cool whip and blend well.

Spread this mixture over cooled Pretzel crust. (seal edges well).Chill

Dissolve a 6 oz. pkg of strawberry jello in 2 cups boiling water. Add 2 (10 oz. pkgs sliced frozen strawberries. Stir and chill until slightly jelled. Pour over cream cheese layer. Chill several hours or over night.
That's it! It's really yummy.
