RE: Uses For Chicken Stock
Here's a favorite recipe of mine that uses chicken broth (but of course you can substitute stock). It comes from http://www.allrecipes.com.

I add a can of diced green chilies for an extra kick.

Turkey Bowtie Skillet

INGREDIENTS
1/2 pound ground turkey breast
1 1/2 teaspoons vegetable oil
3/4 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
1 garlic clove, minced
1 (14.5 ounce) can chicken broth
2 cups uncooked bow tie pasta
1 (14.5 ounce) can stewed tomatoes
1 tablespoon vinegar
3/4 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt (optional)
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon minced fresh parsley

DIRECTIONS
In a large skillet or Dutch oven, brown turkey in oil.
Add celery, onion, green pepper and garlic; cook until vegetables are tender. Remove the turkey and vegetables with a slotted spoon and keep warm.
Add broth to the pan; bring to a boil. Add pasta; cook for 10 minutes or until tender.
Reduce heat; stir in the tomatoes, vinegar, sugar, chili powder, garlic salt if desired and turkey mixture. Simmer for 10 minutes or until heated through. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and parsley.

RE: Bringing Mayo For Your Lunch
My daughter likes to take salad sometimes for lunch, so I put the salad dressing in the smallest reusable container I can find, like Rubbermaid or Ziploc. They don't take up too much space in her lunch bag and are environmentally friendly to boot!

I have also used a sandwich bag in a pinch. I just put the salad dressing in a corner of the, tie it off, then she snips the tip off the corner and squeezes the dressing out. Maybe one of these ideas will work for your mayo. Happy brown bagging!

RE: Switching to Advantage
I don't know about using the two products back to back - I'd ask a vet first if it were me.

You will, however, need to treat your home. Just after treating my kitties, I used a home flea spray (available at pet supply or big box retailers) on the carpets and upholstery. After it dried I added a layer of Borax to the carpets and vacuumed. (Be sure to dump the vacuum immediately after vacuuming then take the trash outside.) Any bedding the kitties slept on was washed in warm water.

Doing these things gets rid of larvae and eggs that might be present and that will re-infest your kitties. I also found that it's best to do everything in one day. We have 4 happy, flea- free kitties as proof!

RE: Christmas Party Food Ideas
My family has done a potato and soup/chili bar and that worked well.

Also consider dips and chips along with crudites. Hummus is easy to make and healthy, marshmallow fluff and cream cheese blended are great for fresh fruits, and tomato or corn salsa could be used either for tortilla chips or the potatoes.

Veggie or fruit pizzas are delicious and easy to make (or buy at the deli!). Chicken satay can be made ahead of time and kept warm, and you could serve a crock of Tom Ga Kai (Thai chicken and coconut milk soup) alongside some pre-cooked rice.

For decorations, it might be fun to dig up some pictures from family gatherings past and use them as mementos or place some of the best ones in inexpensive holiday frames. Thrift stores or dollar stores are great places to buy these.

Red and white carnations arranged on the table are fragrant and durable. Gather items of like colors - both Christmas themed and not - and arrange similar things in groups, accenting with the non-holiday items that pull colors from them. For example, create groupings of snowmen or Santas or snowflakes. ... View related article.

RE: Electrical Savings 102
Insulate behind outlets along exterior walls. Foam insulators are available at your local hardware store. For an extra energy saving kick (with a safety bonus), cover any unused outlets with plastic safety plugs meant for baby-proofing. It's amazing how much air comes in and around outlets and these are two easy, inexpensive ways to cut the air flow. ... View related article.

RE: Electricity Savings 101
Install a programmable thermostat and set the temperature higher for when you are away from home during the day, then lower for the evening after you return and for sleeping.

Insulate, insulate, insulate! Blown in insulation is a low-cost way to save big bucks.

Use your dishwasher, washer and dryer late at night or early in the morning. This helps lower peak usage and also helps to keep your house cooler.

Install blackout roller shades (available at hardware stores and big box retailers for around $10 each) on the west windows of your home and lower them during the day. Keeping your home darker means that your A/C won't have to work as hard. ... View related article.

RE: Aerobic Exercises
You might want to try Leslie Sansone's "Walk Away the Pounds" DVDs. They combine speed walking with aerobics, and using 2-lb. weights is optional. Instead of regular hand weights I use weighted balls because I don't have to grip them tightly. Before I got those I used canned foods that weighed between 1 and 2 lbs. each.

Honestly though, walking while holding weights works well too. I do like having the option of the DVD on those days I can't walk outdoors due to inclement weather. ... View related article.

RE: Safe Candles for Power Outages
You might consider installing some battery powered "tap" lights in strategic places in case of another power failure. You could tap as you go to turn on, then tap as you return to turn off. ... View related article.

RE: Laminated "Textured Stone" Flooring
It shouldn't streak after cleaning, provided you follow the manufacturer's instructions to a tee. Check into how to clean the flooring before you buy and you shouldn't be disappointed! You might also ask a sales rep about which products are best to use, and whether there are any natural (for example, Borax) products you can substitute for chemical cleaners. Another tip: in my experience, all purpose cleaners of any kind clean lots of things, but none of them well. ... View related article.

RE: Identifying Asbestos Insulation
Here is more information from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA):

http://www.epa.gov/asbestos/pubs/ashome.html

And the City of Bloomington, MN has some good photos and information, particularly on what to do (and not do) if you have asbestos in your home:
